Firstly - that my new mare does have a mega-spook in her.

Secondly - The gound IS very hard.

Third - I don't bounce like I used to!

OUCH!! And slightly embarassing as I was having a lesson with a new instructor at the time. Maggie brushed against the arena fence, and I think she freaked herself out as all of the field fences have electric along the top, and she got 'zapped' a few days ago. She shot sideways and spun, and I came off over her shoulder, and hit the dirt. (Grass arena, so no fibre sand to ease my fall!)
I've been nervous of riding her, and about coming off, but was quite pleased that as soon as I got my breath back, I was straight back on her again. Finished the lesson on a reasonable high note, so happy overall. :)
Maybe a fall was what I needed to get over my fear of falling, in a strange kind of way! :D

Oops , always good to have an audience :o.

I agree, sometimes the thought of falling is actually worse than actually hitting the deck!

Glad you bounced back on and had a good ending to your lesson :).

glad your not hurt seriously, I imagine you will be sore in the morning though!!
Yes your probably right that is usually how it works if your scared of it then once it happens and all is ok suddenly its not scary!! Well done for getting back on straight away.

Oh dear- bad luck! Hope the bruises aren't too bad tomorrow..

Well done for getting back on. Now you know to be sympathetic to her fear of the oh-so-terrifying fence :p

In a weird sort of way, its probably good you came off her. I was really scared of falling off my new mare (5 years ago) and when she bucked me off on day 4, it just made things much easier. Kind of like the worst had happened. I got straight back on (well I had to go back to the yard for a mounting block) and everybody thought I was really brave (I am really NOT).

Agreed - I had a hairy moment just last night schooling my mare in the field to "wake her up" I was reminded of her mega buck and pace - plus of that feeling when you think you are going to say hello to the ground - neck strap saved me when she unseated me though thank god ! :-)

I think its my own fault as I was trying to work out the last time I fell off, i think it is nearly 4 years then she's nearly had me twice since !! I can feel it coming now next Sat for the 1st hunt of the season

Hope you are ok OP - have a good long hot bath get back on ad doe something that scares you xx

Thinking about falls, I had such an embarrassing one during the summer.

I had a lovely little cob on loan, and my mum's friend and her kids came up to see him. Now normally he would be very laid back, dope-on-a-rope kind of pony, throwing the very occasional tiny buck going into canter. Anyway, I reckoned that if he was okay when I rode, I'd let them have a ride (on the lead rein because they didn't know him at all).

Anyway when I got on him he was fresher than anything, he felt tighter and bouncier even than the ex racer I had the previous year!

Needless to say he decided to do a mad exhibition of rodeo about 3 ft away from them- cue me lying on the floor and fat pony standing there with a very cheeky look on his face!
