Pulling delicia's mane, trimming her tail and trimming her feathers, i rode her and concentrated on her suppleness and flexion and acceptence of my leg aids.

It has been a good day :D so what have you lovely HHO'ers been up to today? Been sunny but not so warm here.

I too have been very productive!

I bathed the pony as its so lovely and warm, we have a comp next weekend so as least he's kinda clean now I might just be able to hot cloth next week if it gets colder! I've also washed all my brushes (something I never do) and all his boots. Also got a few things sorted to ebay tonight.

Her mane looks fab. :)

I'd quite like to borrow your skills as I've not touched my mare's mane while she's been off work and she is now sporting the wild and unkempt look. :o

Ooh very smart :p
Today I rode for a lot longer than anticipated!! I schooled for 45mins. Jumped (less than a foot X poles) 15mins. Then my friend came to the yard and wanted someone to hack with her, soninwebt for a shortish hack with her :)
And what's even better when I got back and brushed Buddy off he wasn't too sweaty :D

Looking very smart! Not done much with my boy as he is on boxrest :( hopefully not for too much longer though!

Oh no! Do you mind me asking what he has done? healing vibes being sent your way :)

Yes i love pulling manes, it find it quite thereputic and delicia nowadays nods off to sleep or listens to me humming. dees mane was 12 cm long :O poor unkept neddy :( ;).

I uploaded this pics to facebook, so many people offering me their horses manes to pull, i should set this up as a business ;)

You should. :) I hate doing manes and I would pay for someone to tackle the current mess.

Her mane is looooong and thick, should I start by cutting some off with scissors?

Sounds like a good productive day :)
I went down yard this morning and dug up two ragworts! did a bit of poo picking after feeding nell and giving her a fuss, then fed and derugged my friends mare.
Had my parents over night and they left after lunch, then me and OH went to play tennis and now thinking about a film to watch :D

Your mare looks very smart black_horse :)

I had a good day today too. Gave both mine a groom and did bit of a tidy up on Blossom the yeti pony. Bit too hard to trim when Amber keeps wanting me to do her instead

Blossom also had a bit in for the first time and was super. I left it on for about 10 minutes while we went for a walk (leadrope attached to headcoller not bit though) so she could get used to it- will do the same for the next few days too.

Then I just sat on a rug, ate my lunch and watched them. Great way to spend a lovely day!

I had a fab lesson this morning then I had to go home to write an essay. I learnt what actually sitting in the middle of my horse means - turns out she is so crooked just sitting in the middle of my saddle won't cut it - and she went all lovely and soft in her back and naturally round. But no one, including me, is interested in the damn essay.

That mane looks lovely, so even.

where do you live blackhorse? manni's mane is thick and needs thinning out and shortening. And baby Jay's mane is about a foot long after his winter turnaway! He has yet to build his topline (he's only rising 4) and so his long mane is making s neck look worse.

am I right in thinking that the top showjumpers these days cut their horses manes with scissors?

Busy day for me today.

At 9am I took a nappy pony I've been schooling for a hack to see if that would help the problem (it did) - beautiful beautiful sunny morning for it!

Then I hot footed it back to Surrey for 11am as my friend was dropping off the mare I'll be schooling for sale for the next few weeks. Got her settled, went to the tack shop to buy a new jumping whip, then did a bit of flatwork schooling with her working on keeping her soft and relaxed, then turned her out.

Heading back to the yard in a minute to bring her in - am blooming knackered!

I would, but only scissor to about 2-3 inchs longer then you wish to pull too, or try a solo comb? I hate solo combs but im old fashioned like that :)

A very productive day and it isnt even 5pm yet! good going :P

Ragwort......*shudders* i hate that stuff with a passion, is it me or is that out very early this year :S . Its nice to take some of the rugs off isnt it :D dee had hers off most the day, only rerugged her after washing her as the wind was a little chilly and she is full clipped and wet at the time. Delicia has really been sunbathing lately...and god does she feel good (and opinionated!) lol.

Thank you :) yes i spring cleaned the house and thought it was time to do the horse :) she looks presentable now :) no yeti-like. She did rather look like a part bred yak :O

I love the idea of muteral grooming, but it hurts :S dee luckyly only muteral groosm other horses, she nuzzles me. Sounds like a wonderful day, but you were missing the wine tasting whilst watching the ponies ;)

Glad you had a brilliant lesson, i love lessons like that where you feel you have achieved a lot. You dont mind spending the £££'s when its like that do you? can you teach me how to sit in the middle of the horse? I seem to have forgotten this  .

I live in kent ;) thinking of setting up a mane pulling business (horsey hairdresser anyone :P ) A lot of people use scissors and cut across the hair, i always thought if using scissors you should cut vertically upwards to make a more natural approach ???

However, i do not use scissors, just a pulling comb :)

Yes, it seems very early this year, horrid stuff, it is lovely to get their rugs off, though my fluff monster baby is rugless anyway, but my friends mare was pleased to get the sun on her, she is a very fluffy unclipped cob so nice for her for a change :D

Did she roll? I turned dee out into the 'sand pit' yesterday, rugless and she rolled, grunted, bucked and farted. She loved it :)

my boy is on box rest and when we all grow some we will start riding (just waiting for my back to recover too!) so i satisfied myself by pulling his mangy long mane and trimming his tail after cleaning and creaming all the cuts he's given himself by broncing around his box, then a pat and a kiss and finishing my english coursework!!
D looks lovely certainly put me to shame!

She looks so smart BH, I love the short back and sides look.

The short back and sides look suits dee, her neck looked odd when her mane was longer :S I oiled her lil hooves up also and then promptly put her back in her box

box rest is never fun, neither is coursework, boo! hopefully not for long eh :) dee says thankies :D

nawwww look and the lil foalie :D how gorgeous and what a supprise :O hope mare and foal are ok!!!

Bless, poor owner has an extra mouth to cater for :) take it the mare is a new addition to the family or you have a very ambitious stallion on your yard who went partying without due care and attention ;)

My friends mare enjoyed a lovely roll and lay down in the sunshine yes, she is a nice older mare, she was my late mares best buddy :) And strangely could pass for my new mares mum!

aw bless :)

There is a real sense of satisfaction that i get when i see dee sunbathing and we have really sweet kisses and cuddles as she is all sleepy/dozey :D love it, best feeling in the world

Well today It was one of my youngsters first time having a rider fully on board, rider was me and and she was a very good girl so I am very happy.
Although my two year old has learned another attention seeking trick, look at me mummy I can rear up at the stable door, she is such a little bizzim and as soon as you stamp out one thing she learns another so will be interesting to see what it is tomorrow.

No, she was bought last autumn  What's worse is I had been riding the mare before Christmas as she was proving too tricky/unschooled for the child she was for (although great on leadrein).. She's only 12hh

Seems we have all had a day of pampering the ponies. I washed a very orange mane and tail until it was almost white again, then took supposedly lame horse for a walk up the lane... or she took me for a walk anyway. Can't be feeling too sore since she jogged and snorted the whole way  She did make me laugh though, seems to be feeling rather well :D

OO small pony :( its a shame really, the old owners must have known and choose not to tell the new owners....thankfully the mare is alright :) foalie is very cute

Had a lazy morning, followed by a mini photoshoot then took my lad for his first in-hand (box rest) walk. He was foot perfect :D
