If you have a horse that is inclined to roll in its stable when its rug is taken off, DO NOT give it access to hay until after it has rolled

I did exactly this today (yes I know, I probably should have put brain in gear....) poor B happily munching his hay waiting for farrier, took rug off to groom and he thought 'yippee roll time' with mouthfull of hay.

I've never had a horse have choke before, its not nice

and I totally think could have been avoided if I had actually thought about it. So slap on the wrist for me

.

He's fine now, worked himself through it and now right as rain, quick call to vet to check what I should and shouldn't do/give him/etc etc, but just thought I would pass my 'learning curve' on.....

No, choke is not nice but, then again I am sure horses roll plenty of times when they're eating/have just eaten. Maybe the horse should learn! Lol

Really I think we need to credit our horses with some common sense!

LadyT you are absolutely right and no nothing ever happens, its just one of those things. Fortunately I thought, ok so this must be choke, he'll work himself through it....don't panic and took him outside to roll about on the grass....

Poor farrier though turned up and god knows what he must have thought....gave him a tip for the extra waiting around he had to do....

Thanks TPE x
