Went for a little drive to Snowdonia-as you do and while having a walk I spotted a dog. As I looked at this dog I realised that something was not quite right. He was someway in the distance so I couldn't figure it out.

When he got closer I realised he only had 3 legs. His front right was amputated right to the shoulder. Of course this started a conversation with the owner. Two years ago while driving home from a days walk his owners car was hit from behind and pushed into a wall. Jax was thrown from the back of the car and when the lady came round she found him licking her face. He stayed with her for the 30 minutes it took help to arrive, never leaving her side.

It was only afterwards that she heard the full story. After being injured in the impact and thrown out of the car, he ended up on the otherside of the road. He picked himself up and was walking to her when he was hit by an oncoming car, shattering his leg. He dragged himself to her and refused to move until Emergency services had her cut free and in the ambulance.

I'd like to say it was a spangle but we all know that the spangle would be raiding the glove box for sweets or eating the left over picnic grub! ;)

Yup......He was a GSD. :)

Ooh that's just brought tears to my eyes. I have to say, I'm not surprised it was a GSD - my GSD x collie did some amazing acts of loyalty in his life time.

Wow, what an amazing story and what a great dog.

There is a woman I used to see jogging with her baby in a pram and a three-legged greyhound, always wanted to stop and ask her what his story was!

OT but I am sure MM, you remember the story of AR who said that her Balko lay down beside her and stayed with her until help arrived, after she had an accident?

What a lovely story, made me feel a bit weepy!

When my Mum had her accident, all the dogs were thrown from the car. Luckily they were rounded up by a bystander and kept safe until my Dad arrived, but I can imagine her old boy would have refused to leave her side! In fact it was probably lucky fro her and the Emergency Services that he was thrown from the car, they'd have struggled to get past him otherwise! And he was a Spangle :p :D

Touching story,i allways if have dogs in the car have them wearing harness like the 5 point seatbelts rally drivers etc wear,in the unfortunate instance of a crash will stop them flying into you an caising huge damage, even a little bump can increse a dogs/humans weights times 3.
