Hacking one of Robert's youngters today on a public bridleway about 3miles from his yard. The bridle way runs through a few farmyards as ours does.
Today a staffordsire x type dog flew out of one of their outbuildings and went for Vince's front hooves, he wasn't too bothered but scuffled sideways a little and pranced about. The dog was really vicious, growling and he jumped up and got the bottom of my chap. I only have a slight cut on my ankle and I think I'm ok becuase I had my tetanus last year, that should be ok, shouldn't it?
Anyway, I kept Vince moving forwards and got further down the bridle way away from the farm before I hopped off and checked up both over. Robert wasn't there when I got back becuase he had taken the big one BSJA, but he knows the farmers, should I get him to have a quiet word or should I report them? I'm so angry, the dog could have been there for a lot longer, or could have got a little child who was a lot more vulnerable. V is ok, he has a small cut but I have bandaged it and left Robert a message to see to it when he gets back. Im so angry

Well funnily enough I didn't have chance to ask

My aunt has 3, it is the same build but taller and slightly more athletic judging by the spring in it.

I like the way it is a staffie x type! Do you know that for sure???

To be fair, she couldn't really have been more vague ! Its not like she said it MUST be a SBT - how else would you describe a dog of that body type?

Think I may report them in the morning, hell if that happened on our farm someone would report us. I shall be sure to owe you a stonking great appology should it be anything other than a staffie x stacie.

No but she did say "I WAS bitten by a staffie x type"
She could have worded it a bit better. ie: I was bitten today by what i think may have been a staffie x, if she wasnt sure that is!!! I just hate it when people presume it was a staff because it bit soemone!

If the owner of the horse knows the farmer I would say have a quiet word-try and avoid any hard feeling or it might make things awkward. If he doesnt co-operate then thats the time to report the dog. It certainly shouldnt be left on a public right of way if its going to behave like that. Is it the first time you have been through that farm? Maybe its meant to be chained up but got free accidently or something? Hope you feel better soon!

How old are you? that is why I put staffie x type becuase it is a staffordshire type dog, I know this because I have seen many stafforshires, are you done trying to pick pieces off of me now?

For goodness sakes, yes not every staffie is vicious, but that doesnt mean every one isnt!!

It doesnt matter what the breed was, rosie didnt say oh it was one of those vicious staffie types, so stop getting so defensive.

Rosie I hope you are ok, I personally would be having very strong words withth dogs owner!

Oh get off your bloomin high horse! You had a little rant in another post because someone suggested they didnt like staffie types. OP knows her dog breeds, I'm quite sure she's capable of telling a staffie type from a bloomin collie.
I have a springer but don't get all offended when someone says they don't like them...

Oooh wonder what sort of dog you own....

[/ QUOTE ]

Yes i do own four staffs!!!!!....Hence the reason for trying to stand up for them!!!

Look im not going to argue over what type of bladdy dog it is. As long as the horse and rider are ok thats all that matters! Just dont presume if your not sure!!!

BUT OP IS sure, it is YOU who presumed she wasn!

*sigh*

GigglePig- yes that is a sensible idea as I will have to hack past there a few times a week an don't want this happening every time, more for horse's tendons' sake than mine!
Stacie- At no point did I say I wasn't sure what kind of dog it is, it WAS a staffie type dog, and I'm terribly sorry but there is nothing you can say to convice me otherwise as you didn't see it, did you? Stop picking arguments out of nothing.

Im not trying to pick a fight Rosiie that is why i asked if you were sure....I dont want to cause arguments on this forum. I havent yet since joining and i dont intend to. I hope you and your horse is ok and that the issue gets resolved!
smile.gif

Yes, I then got told off for wording my post wrong... To be fair I only posted to ask what was the best course of action to take about the dog, I din't ask to have a debate about how vicious Staffies can be..

I'm sure rosiie has nothing against staffie types - why would she say it was if it wasn't?? I'm sure if it had been a JRT, a GSD or any other kind of dog she would have said so!!

Stop being so defensive!

I hate it when this type of thing happens, personally I would report the owner to both the police and teh RSPCA (also take photos of any injuries no matter how slight) as I feel this type of owner rarely does anything about their dogs behaviour. We have several dog owners who actually refuse to keep their dog in or under control etc and I've even been told by one of them if my horse doesn't like dogs (it was nipping and jumping up) I shouldn't ride it out on the bridleway! In my opinion any dog that draws blood should either be re-educated by a welfare charity and rehomed where it wont be a menace or pts.
