Had Toffee PTS today, I shouldn't have put her through winter this year so waited for some sun let her be naked for a few days and then do what I should have done last year.

Shes only 20 but was retired at 17 due to arthritic changes a lifestyle that just didnt suit her.

But she was the best first pony a girl could wish for. She bolted, spectacularly spooked (and bolted) at nothing, she got out of lorries at pony club and rolled on more than one occasion in full tack but my god that pony lived for jumping, fast hacks, sponsored rides and pony clubbing. And most importantly taught me to ride and handle a horse.

I went on to have a ex racer and handed her to my sister who I literally plonked on one day and showed walk, trot, canter, gallop and jump. And there was a instant bond between them that I have to say I never had with her. My sister and Toffee had many good years just playing around and once showing a few of my sisters friends up at a local show once that just because you have all gear and the expensive pony at the local show doesn't make you a good rider. Amy once missed her class but she was told she could go off in to the 2ft 9" as a swap anyway as her mates were in it she thought it might be fun. She only went on to win the class (she wore navy jods, and a school polo shirt) for her "school friends" to comment she wasn't suited and booted properly and didnt deserve to be first. My sister the sensible/ outspoken head she is said something along the lines of all the gear no idea in a 12year olds fashion to said "friend" on said newly bought WB. I did eventually encourage my sister into a show jacket when we started to go to other shows other than the one at the bottom of the fields.

Toffee has been through many of my boyfriends and helped me judge them (she met one, who exclaimed he thought it was too muddy in summer ??!!, thus dumped). She has moved with me to my new home. She knew my secrets, she knew my worries growing up, she hid with me when Woody and Jake were put down and I can barely remember riding before owning her.

My wonderful OH stood with her today as I just couldn't be there, I had a lesson with samba so I had something to focus on when I finished the lesson cried my eyes out with Samba who looked very worried bless her. I haven't driven past Toffee's field yet even went the long way round to avoid it, but will face it later when I go and put Samba in.

Anyway a few pictures, Toffee you were the greatest pony any little girl could wish for. Hope you find a few of your old friends accross the bridge!!

A man who I know will be waiting for her (woody)

I'm very sorry to hear about Toffee.
She was lucky to have been so loved and enjoyed and I think she knew it too :)

RIP and my thoughts are with you and your family xx

What a lovely tribute to your girl, she was obviously very well loved and you and your sister have some very happy memories.

RIP Toffee

I'm so sorry for your loss. She looks like she was a wonderful pony who was so well loved. Well done for taking this very hard, heartbreaking but kind decision.

RIP Toffee.

Lovely tribute to a special pony. RIP Toffee, I'm sure you'll meet with many welcoming faces on the other side of the bridge.

Thinking of you and your family.

Thinking of you and of Toffee, who sounds like the sort of character pony who you never, ever forget and who set you onto a horsey path for life. Well done for being there for him buy making a hard decision for you. RIP Toffee, run free with your friends

So sorry for your sad loss. She was obviously part of the family, and will live on in loving memories of happy times spent with her - your pictures are proof of that.

Beautiful tribute to Toffee and so sorry to hear that you have lost her.

We can all learn from one another's experiences, so thank you for being so brave to share her story with us on this sad day.

Oh you poor thing, my deepest sympathy. Doesn't matter how old they are, it's so damned hard to go through this. Run free, Toffee :(

A lovely tribute to lovely character. Love the second picture, she looks she was having fun :)

We lost my first proper pony earlier this year, they leave a huge hole but we have some wonderful memories of her (not always on her best behaviour). Don't beat yourself up about doing it later than you'd have liked. She got some sun and some good grass and I bet she enjoyed munching on it.

RIP Toffee, and take care of yourselves.
