Things are all good!
Bertie and Cecil are playing, Bertie is sharing Cecil’s best toys.
They are snoozing together while I work, this bit is super useful.
He’s eating better, I’ve dampened the food and mixed a bit of Cecil’s I’m with it, not ideal but he’s eating which is better than not. There is a puppy version, may get that.
Tomorrow we have a place at a socialisation session, only two of us applied for the day but I think that may be a good thing, the full quota of 6 I feel may have over whelmed him a little.

@Amymay can I just ask how long did you set your alarm at 2am with daisy and did she at some point just stop weeing when you got up? Currently he is going to the toilet in the night so definitely needs the outing.
The others found that super exciting at first but barely open their eyes now!

I think I did it for about two months. Still get up at 6.00 though (couldn’t break that habit).

Not too horrific! I just didn’t do it with Cecil, he’d been brought up in a house and the mums owner said they didn’t need to, to be fair he was a nightmare to house train in the day but never had an accident over night.
I get up at 6 ish anyway most days, I am hoping the others laziness in the morning will rub off when he’s older though!

Well no I haven’t as far as I recall, as above definitely didn’t with Cecil and the others were too long ago to remember.
Bertie is less settled at night though and is literally wee’ing within a second of going out. From my alarm going off to me getting back into bed is 5 minutes! I can handle that, I’m not the best sleeper.

So we just got back from our socialisation session at the garden centre. It was definitely a good thing there was only one other dog, Bertie was quite nervous, he did play, he did also nip the other pup. It was a bit more boisterous than him and a little big bigger. They had a little play again after that though and all was fine, then he went to sleep 🤣 so I cut it short and we came home early. An hour in that situation is really too long!
He said hello to quite a few people though and took some treats off the ladies in the pet shop.
I put our name down again for next week but said I’d just do a bit of the session again. He more enjoyed the people side of it!
So I think it counts as a successful little trip.
He’s tired out now which is perfect as off to the vet with Arlo cat.

We went to puppy hour at our local garden centre and it was a really positive experience. I can see why it wouldn't be for every puppy though and we were determined to only allow it to be positive. It was far from the chuck them in and let them get on with it idea.

First week we didn't let her off the lead and just had a few friendly introductions, she was also more excited about the people. Then we built it up and she definitely gained a lot of confidence from it. We were just happy to step in so she never felt overwhelmed.

Sounds like Bertie is settling in well 🥰

If the other pup is a bit bumptious and OTT is not let them play, in case he feels he has to nip to defend himself. Sounds very positive though. It’s a plus he likes people!

Good luck with Arlo cat.

At the risk of starting yet another I neglect my dogs argument, I have never got up in the night. 😄
No I don't either. I provide a separate place, away from the bed where they can toilet if they need to from the beginning and stay in bed myself.
Our adults do know that if they call for help during the night, I will go down and let them out, as I sleep above them, so can hear them best.
The last pair of Lab pups that we bought 4 yrs ago were dry overnight from the beginning. They were summer born, had 3 adult dogs, inc mum, in the house and had had free access to the garden, while at the breeder's. At 8 weeks, they were almost completely house-trained.

I only get up if the puppy is unsettled. Pups sleep by my bed in a soft crate or just a regular dog bed (depending on the pup) for the first few weeks and so I wake up if they are moving around or whining etc and then take them out to the toilet then straight back to bed. I know other people who set alarms to take pup out. Do whatever suits you.

I sat on the floor with him. It happened when he got brave and ventured over and they did start to play.
They did play nicely as well. I was surprised at the size of the other pup. Same age exactly but it was a cocker x lab so in theory surely should have been smaller than Bert, it really wasn’t though.
He and Cecil are going from strength to strength on the play front though 😂

He’s so lovely , it’s always a lot at first taking on a puppy but you get confident fast .
Every time I get one one I worry in the run up I won’t know what to do .
Your right! I think having missed the run up to this one and just got him I’m doing my panic intensified now instead.

I know a few dogs at the moment that I really dislike, one in particular everyone dislikes because of training issues so I’m desperate to get it right. I don’t want to be that person!
