Todays BSJA rodeo

He started stopping in the SJ - started with him chipping in a bit and feeling like he wasn't going to make spreads, then it felt like he couldn't make the distances in doubles and triples and putting two strides in a one stride distance for example - and he's 16.2 so no reason for him to be finding it difficult. This progressed to him stopping in combination fences even when perfectly presented, and this horse never, ever stopped SJ even when horrifically wrong he'd give it a go. Eventually it got so bad he would not jump a tiny cross pole, having jumped fine at a clinic with Yogi Breisner the week before. All this time he was still jumping clear round novice XC tracks.

With ulcers, once they have them you need medication to treat them, but can then manage the horse to minimise the chances of them returning once they are treated - but changing management will not cure them once they have them.

In terms of referral, I did not ask for a referral as the charge for seeing the horse is very very high, I just rang them and asked to be taken on as a patient. They asked me to get my normal vet to call them to check no toes were being trodden on which they did, and I am now just a regular client of theirs. I have to say, they will now get to see my horse for anything more than vaccinations, and I'd drive across the country to use them, but then again there are probably lots of very good practices out there, I am just somewhat disillusioned!
