Got a team from the yard together, 4 mounted and 1 on foot who could ride any other horse, and went and did the Adult Gymkhana games comp organised by our local BHS.
7 heats of either 3 or 4 teams followed by a final comprising of the first 2 in each heat, points awarded in the final.
Well what a hoot we all had! Pig was the tallest there at 17hh, there was 2 about 16.2 and the rest were 15hh and under.
First up was the bending race, we'd decided Pidge would go first as he gets a tad keen at gymkhana races
Well blow me down up we bended and down and we crossed the line first out of our 4 in the heat
and handed over to our team mate. Got into the final and he did me proud cantering up and down in great style.
Next up was the mug race where again he was a very good boy and relatively chilled and I managed to transfer the mugs on to different poles without dropping any. Then onto the stepping stones which was good fun and he didn't tread on my toes when running for the hand over line, always a bonus.
Then it fell apart for the coits game where we had to pop the coit over a cone, he got a tad excited and demolished a cone and 2 poles in the unused lane, I dropped the coit but it didn't go over the cone so had to get off put it over the cone and get back on (with aid of a mounting block thank god
) don't ask me how but we got into the final where to my immense surprise once I'd managed to get him near the cone and stop going backwards at speed I got the coit on first time
The least said about the getting the sock in the bucket game the better as he really got too excited and we got eliminated as we kind of impinged on the next teams lane somewhat
Change of team tactics and we put Pidge 2nd as going 1st didn't appear to be working, and YAY it did, he was much more chilled and we did the tyre game fine, even managed to wiggle in and out of the tyre in some semblemce of style
Then onto the last game which was the flag game, well aside from the bending race I think we found his second favourite game, popped the flag in the cone first attempt and then picked the flag from the next cone at a canter
repeated in the final so a very happy mum here

Overall we got through to 4 finals out of 7 and came a creditable 5th out of 7 which bearing in mind we only went for some fun and hadn't practiced at all was very good I thought.
Great day had by all, and the sun even came out though it was blooming cold when it went in. Good company and good fun what more can you ask for, kind of makes up for HT cancelled tomorrow due to the wet ground.
No pics yet as waiting for them from friends.
Would highly recommend this to anyone else wanting to give their horse a change and have some fun, we'll be putting a team in again next year for sure.
