sometimes i wonder if people just dont think you'll notice blemishes and vices , or if they're just plain retarded!!!!!
ive been to see a few now on my quest for another youngster.

all of the following were supposed to be floorless conformation, no vices no blemishes whatsoever!!!...
one had 2 splints, wingals, big scar, napped and had a bucking fit when told off for being stuffy!

another was dog lame, the next had a massive scar down its face, and was pigeon toes and the last one i've just seen - was SO cold backed all i could do was laugh hysterically when she got on (i then left promptly!!)

really - i just don't get people these days ..... makes you wonder what goes on in their brains!!
 
I expect they're hoping you'll overlook all their 'tiny' flaws and fall in love with them anyway.....
...... ah well, some people believe in Santa!!
I suppose they're just desperate to get someone to view their horse.
I know someone though who bought a 2 year old, unbacked arab colt and didn't notice it plaits spectacularly in front and has windgalls on all 4 legs. Oh, and has mismatched forefeet; one being really, really bocy.
Oh, and someone else who after a year of ownership has only just noticed that his horse is spectacularly pigeon-toed and splays his forelegs out so they're about 4 ft apart when he moves...
*sigh*
 
i know the feeling! - when i was looking i was told for every pony i went to see they had no vices - truely, honestly guv!!! one was, like yours, so cold backed they walked it round for 15 mins before they got on then when they asked for canter it rodeod, wouldnt stand still for feet to be inspected but they 'thought' it was ok with farrier - it didnt have shoes on surprise surprise! Another would only jog/trot wouldnt walk at all ect ect - did they think i wouldnt notice?? what a waste of mine (and their) time - now look im all worked up just thinking about the lying S**ts!!! Sorry for my ranting x

Welcome to my world!!! I went to one place to see a beautiful pony, very wide in the back, the owner promptly pulled out a jumping saddle that she used on her thoroughbred that was horrendously narrow and long on the pony, My friend saw one that was bombproof and supposedly a wonderful childs pony that the child rider was too scared to get on, it put its ears back and would not go forwards, I went to see a 'bombproof cob' that had no muscle hadn't been ridden in 2 weeks, was green as hell, on a field of ragwort and took off with me when I sat on it!!! They wanted £3,300 for it!!!!
 
I agree, having been to view many horses with my friend in search for her ultimate friend, have seen all sorts of mis shaped and weird horses!
However i have also sold a few horse/ponies in the past and the riders are just as much to blame! Why can't they be honest, had a couple come to view my very experienced 5 yr old only to find they were not only novice but had only ridden twice and wanted a good allrounder with jumping ability for the future! After confusing my poor unfortunate boy they insited they bought him! They were told in no uncertain terms he was not for them!

I wouldn't necessary disregard the ugly duckling - 2 years ago we bought a skinny 17.1 with the worst manners, wouldnt tie up kicked the lorry constantly huge scar down the front of his face where he had jumped out of his stable - twice - and we have recently sold him to a top showjumper. Oh and he's pigeon toed and still is skinny! But when he jumped - well - I couldn't wait to buy him. It depends on wht you want them for - as we compete how they look is not overly important. But on top of sellers not telling the truth neither do buyers. We had a girl look at one of our younsters twice and then brought her trainer and we haven't heard anything since then over 4 weeks ago. How rude is that!
 
i know! i hate joyriders! or the typical pushy mum who thinks her son/daughter is the bees knees and an amazing rider - then they turn up - have no clue - cant see a stride - cr*p riders and are instantly told to get of my horse - and go home!!!!!!!
 
there are "sellers" and "sellers"...

people who KNOW what they are selling, and how to describe it, people trying to pull a fast one and people who'd sell snow to Eskimo's.

you just need to be a "buyer" to see through it!!!
 
I was told that Hemir was bombpoof.....but got him home and after 3 months he was strong, would take off with me, rear, buck...etc!! he was fit again! He has got windgalls but they dont bother him, he has never been lame because of them...!!

I do agree that they're not allways what they say on the tin - soy not good expression!!! but sometimes they are, Hemir may not be bombproof but he has certainly bought my confidenc eback up to 100% and i can't ask fo more than that!!

Totally agree with you RHT, and want to add that there are "buyers" and there are "buyers" too ......!
 
We bought a little project horse, bombproof etc. Done 80cm courses
I don't know who with! He barely knew what a tiny pole was, and just didn't know how to trot or canter properly..or at all... 5 weeks later and he's jumping 1m happily and popping a 90cm course whilst trotting and cantering, I have to say I doubt they rode it more than once a month..
Sold and all though, and a nice horse with novicey owners.
 
i have just been pony shoppin with a friend for a transition horse for her kid............who is a bit naive (the mum that is) but has just had her eyes opened to how much people lie.....distort the truth............
blemish free (well he had a large splint but you don't check your horses legs every day must have come up last night) another one was ment to be fine, couldn't canter and for some reason hadn't hacked out for 2 yrs but ok with traffic.
Another one was forward going and yes it was forward going and side ways going etc, turns out had been schooled up to elementory nice mare but not a kids transition horse and is still for sale 5months later? another one i have to admit it was the first time i nearly called a vet, the pony was so ill (or doped) had a cut on his shoulder he couldn't open his eyes or lift his head but the owner was just going to put some cream on the cut on the shoulder..........he will be fine will phone when better still waiting for that call
another one would have been the horse for us but a year later just that bit to much shame though nice pone.

but when i was looking years ago for me the best bit of miss selling i saw was a 15.1 grey cob gelding that turned into a 16.2 CHESTNUT !!?mare..............

Wierdest feet I have EVER seen - one is really flat and the other really narrow and upright - and the owners actually want to use it for breeding can you believe????????? Prob not same colt

OMG it does sound like the same colt. This one's owner ALSO wants to use it for breeding and the owner of the horse with the splayed legs wants to breed it to his peruvian paso mare...

I doubt it's the same one though as I live in Argentina

What really floors them is someone who can actually age a horse. When I was first looking, I told them I was a vet and I'd do my own vetting and I didn't want to drive across half hte country to see a lame horse. I saw 28 horses/ponies and would have failed 15 of those without ever taking them out of the box.

One dealer left me to tack up - and when I pointed out that it was impossible to do up the noseband on account of the tooth root abscess distorting the pony's jaw said, 'must have come up over night' (trust me, they don't)

Now looking again and saw a supposed 5yo last week that is rising 4 at best and has 'hunted in Ireland'. I would have bought him as a rescue but they're asking £3750

and then there was the woman who asked me to look at a lump on her horse's head 'while I was there' (viewing a pony, not in a veterinary capacity) and when I said, 'well at his age, I wouldn't worry' said, 'what do you mean, he's a 6 year old?' Fortunately, she had a home-bred 6 yo in the next box so I was able to point out that the one with the lump hadn't seen the right side of 10 for a fair while.

moral of the story - get a vetting. they may not be cheap, but it'll stop you making an idiot of yourself quite so fast. Or perhaps people should just be forced to have a degree in horse management and basic riding before they ever get a horse? It would save a *lot* of heartache and mismanaged horses...

well to add to my story of ponies and lying etc, we thought we had found one, had it vetted and it failed slight lame on a circle seller then said she would drop the price to 3k...........................so we have walked away.................ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh back to shopping if anyone out there knows of a fun pc/rc ride out there that is sound pref without lumps, 4 legs would be good and it can hack down the road, jump without bogging off, go in a trailer and not faint at a tractor let me know...........................................i know its out there just have to wade through the other stuff first

Is this the trotting in concrete on a 5m circle test? If so, we tell anyone coming to view one of our horses that we won't allow a vet to do that test. Fortunately, most vets don't do it any more. It is really not a good idea!

no the lamness was first picked up in a sand school on a large circle and it is only on one rein which does indicate a problem we vetted twice as it was such a good prospect he was better on some surfaces than others but still slightly lame
