My daughter was 2 at Christmas and loves horses like mad and loves having a sit on but I'd really like her to have a hat but I don't know where to start especially at the moment as I can't imagine I can get one fitted anywhere?

Does anyone recommend a good hat that will last more than 2 minutes as she grows?

No recommendations but remember to get something light as her neck won't be super strong. I have seen a few adjustable ones but very few of those are BHS approved I think.

The only one I have found might be a good one is the uvex onyxx but I haven't seen it in the flesh yet

My 2.5yo niece has a 'sit on' here and there and is always held. She's not riding properly and won't be for a while. At the moment, to introduce her to the idea that she must wear a helmet, she uses her bike helmet which has an adjustable dial at the back and is lightweight.
As mariew has said, few of the lightweight adjustable ones are fully up to standard (certainly not the cheap ones!). If she is being constantly supported then that may be less of a consideration at the moment.
As she gets bigger or wants to do more, my niece will be bought a proper hat. Their heads don't actually grow all that quickly - certainly not the same way they change shoe sizes!!

Not sure if they are BHS approved, but I have used both a cycle helmet and a Polly riding hat, both adjustable and fine for a lead around mostly being held.

Uvex. I have one for my little boy. Adjustable and very very light, which is important as their necks aren't strong, as mentioned earlier.

Yep at the moment she is always being held but I think it wont' be too longer before she will want to try on her own but it's only occasionally she's riding at the moment but I'd feel safer if she had a hat on!

The under 2 who popped in with horsey mum to sit on Little A, has a well fitted cycle helmet.

Her mum was amazed little one would wear it as she generally hates hats of any sort.
But, she grabs for it as soon as arrives at yard. At that age, its getting them to wear a hat, so a nice bright one that's washable and cheap enough to be binned when thrown on floor when parents head is away for a second, is the way to go.

To add, parents have also put her in a full toddler harness, so much easier to hold or reach when she's sat on board, she's not fussed about it either. Saves grabbing sn arm or leg if she wriggles about to one side

decathlon - they do something similar to uvex and its under £20, the dial function makes it fit for a long time, mine has lasted my child 3 years now.
