My son's 10 month old cocker occasionally chews her toe nails. They are not too long, though could perhaps do with a bit of a trim. Not having met this problem before is it something we should be concerned about?

Just trim if needed. I never have to trim except for dew claws which my lot all sadly have. Zak occasionally has a chew on his. If she's chewing paws, that can be a sign of anal gland issues.

Check the feet...look underneath the feet ,open the toes..look for any seeds etc..
Consider her diet..are eyes nice and dry? No allergies?
Trim any excess fur from underpads and around the feet.
Look at skin under the pads..any redness can be bacterial..wash feet in antibacterial shampoo. Dry well.
Dogs can also chew when a bit bored...time for a walk?

All my Dobes have trimmed their own nails, I rarely have to clip them, whether its a Dobe thing or not I dont know but they do make a good job of them and they are not bored.

One of mine loves to lie on her back roaching with one of her paws in her mouth, gently chewing on it. She does it when she is totally relaxed and I have just put it down as one of her quirks. It would be different if she was worrying at it and making herself sore and I would investigate in that case.
