I've had my 3 year old Lhasa apso a few months now, she had previously lived on a farm and wasnt toilet trained properly. When we first got her she had accidents for the first few days but since then has been fine, no accidents at all anymore.

However if we take her to a strange house to visit she wets the carpet- even if she has just been for a walk! I am thinking its a stress related thing? Anyone got any other ideas?

We are going on holiday soon and I am worried about her weeing all over my friends house.

Is she happy to go in a crate??? If so I would put her in her crate when you 1st get to a new place, let her settle and then when she is calm open the door and let her come out in her own time. This will also provide a familiar bolt hole for when you are away. If she is not crate trained, I would start now.

If she pee's after entering/seeing strangers in the house...it could well be anxiety/submissive behaviour...if so there is a few things you can do to help this...if not and it's a case of her doing it willy nilly...then crate her at home first...make the crate her little safe place and give her treats/food e,t,c every time she is placed in it at home...therefor taking her little safe place/home with her when you travel to a new environment...this way the environment changed but her little safe place/crate is always familiar to her.

This is one of the reasons we crate train our rescues...knowing that one of the most stressfull tasks ahead of them is settling into a new environment....their crate stays the same...a bit like their safety net...if that makes any sense.

When entering the new environment...don't make a big fuss of her...try to treat her the way you would at home...esp if you saty overnight...keep the routine the same...a crate will help you to do this.

Just read the staying with a friend bit....if you do decide to carte train her...send the crate with her and leave a familiar smelling bed and her usual at home toys, chews e,t,c...it always helps my boarders to settle when they come with a few familiar items.....ask your friend to stick to your normal routine...to help her settle.

Good luck

QR- thanks for the help , going to look into crate training her asap. Will keep you posted on her progress.
