I'm collecting my new miniature jack russel puppy in the morning, and it's been a while since i've had to toilet train a puppy. Whats the best way of doing so?? least stressful way for her and me would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!

Kim using puppy pads for mine, they are impregnated with something that encourages them to wee on. I try and use the same 'wee wee ' encouragement and he now knows what it means so when we do go out on the garden and say the 'wee wee' word he sort of gets it! You are supposed to move the pads gradually nearer the door and eventually outside. There are other ( maybe better) methods but as my lad is only tiny and it was deep snow outside when I first got him I did it this way.
You might find better answer if you post in the dog section.

Good luck, hope it goes well, I am loving my little lad :-)

I have just been through all of this for the first time!

We bought some pads that you can stick to the floor but he didnt really go for them! We just took him outside every hour or soe and stood with him, when by chance he went we praised him tons and offered him a treat. If he happened to do it inside we wouldnt tell him off as such or scare him but made him aware that he isnt supposed to! He is a very clever puppy, and seemed to get it after a week or two! Had him six weeks now and no accidents! One thing we did find is he wouldnt really go to the toilet outside at first unlesswe stood out with him, we couldnt like just leave the patio doors open. He maybe felt more comfortable or understood better. Hope this helps, and best of luck I bet you are v excited!

First thing is get a cage for puppy. This becomes their own space and also makes things a lot easier for toilet training.

Alway take the puppy outside as soon as it wakes up from a snooze, has been playing for more than 10 minutes and immediately after it is fed. If you stick to this they soon get into the habit of weeing every time they get taken outside!

As they sleep in their cage they are more inclined to try and keep it clean so do seem to toilet train quicker.

Mind you it is a terrier so will have its own agenda!

I would personally stay away from the puppy pads. It can be confusing for a puppy when the "toilet area" moves, and you may find that even when the pads move towards the door, the pup goes where it used to be.
Far less confusing IMO to teach the dog from day one that toileting is done outside.
Take the pup out before he sleeps, when he wakes up, after food, after play. Aim for every half hour. Less accidents, (there will be SOME accidents, its a puppy) but it wont be long before he's asking to go out.
Good luck :D

thanks guys, great advice, i cant wait to get her!!!! I already have a 3 year old retriever, but he was 4 mths when i got him and he was already trained. I'll post pics tomorrow, once we get home and settled. It's going to be fun, house is big, will have to keep doors closed so she doesnt get lost. Kiddies want to call her Chance, but I told them to wait and see first!!!

Moved to AAD, and Of course i'll keep you posted. cant wait to get her now, hope the cat behaves herself with the little puppy!! Cat rules the roost, she's chased away 3 kittens that my son got to replace his cat that died, one at a time, she's evil, but she's got no chance with the puppy!! She'll be "upgraded" to the stables if she bully's the puppy!!
roll on tomorrow!!!
