I am after ideas and help with toilet training our pup she is ten weeks old, we have had her two weeks, as far as messing goes she will ask to go out, and as long as we are there to let her out she is clean in the house. When it comes to weeing, she is not so good, she gives no indication, sometimes almost goes while walking, sometimes a very small amount, she also will wee on the bedding both hers and our other dogs, I have never had a pup that does this before. She will go when taken out in the garden and will even do a few drops when you take her out straight after she has weed in the house as she gets a treat in the garden after going to the toilet. Any ideas to help stop this greatly received!

Its been a while since I had a pup that young but I used to put them out in the garden every hour approximately, straight after meals and when they woke from a nap and stay with them until they did a wee etc. When they began to go, I would say wee, wee for the duration and then lots of praise. So now as adults when I say wee, wee they all know to go out and do their business. There are bound to be some accidents to begin with but get pup out regularly and don't expect pup to indicate when he needs to go in the beginning.

Hope this helps.

Unfortunately it does take a while before they have complete bladder control and even when they do some dogs won't tell you when they need to go.

Weeing on the bedding is unusual, but can happen (unfortunately). Most dogs will try not to dirty their sleeping place which helps a bit with toilet training, but the odd one is the exception to the rule!

Try taking her out more often, as often as once every hour as blazingsaddles suggest and also right after she has woken up, has had water to drink or anything to eat and at the end of a play session (that is, pretty much all the time!). Sometimes, e.g. if she is waking up, it might help to pick her up and take her straight out, because if she has to walk out she may go on the way.

It does take a while, but she will eventually cotton on!

I know it will take time, and we do take her out as suggested, but she will wee almost every few minutes at times particularly in the afternoon, I tend to find if she goes out with the other dogs she just wants’ to play, hopefully with the weather getting warmer this will help, she is a large breed so I think they tend to mature later with bladder control etc. she is due for her second jab this week so will ask the vet about ideas re weeing on the beds, she deliberately goes and wees on them, it not an accident

Have you tried feeding her on her bedding? I was told to feed my pup where she sleeps to stop her weeing on her bedding. Typically they wont wee/poop anywhere near where they eat, it really helped my girl.

Is she crate trained? Are you watching her 100% of the time?

I found it really difficult to catch the dribbles... My boy knew pretty quickly he wasn't meant to go indoors but sometimes would dribble. I ended up taking him outside every 30-40mins and that seemed to do the trick. If he went to the door to ask to go out, it was because he absolutely had to go out that very moment!! ha ha! So I had to watch him all the time. If I couldn't, he had to be put in his crate. Luckily he never went to the toilet in there. One funny time, I went to the kitchen for drink the moment he went to the door, and I came back seconds later to find a zigg zagging line of wee from the back door to the kitchen!!! Bless him!

It's actually not uncommon for them to urinate on beds if they are beds that are placed around the house and esp if u have tiled or laminate flooring (will explain why if u want me to, but I blather enough as it is):D
If you are following the guide lines and letting her out frequently and crating her in a smaller crate as u can get away with whilst out and keeping her in the same room as you at all times to correct her and guide her to to right area then although I would not commonly suggest it, it may be worth trying training pads at the door of which ever room she is in wit you at the time, this way if you have laminate floor she will be more likely to head for those to do her wittle, this is the point where you are watching as she should be in the same room and scoop her up and take her out, the aim of the pads is not to train her to pee on them but to keep an eye out for her heading for them, if she does have the acccident atleast it's on the pad, but the aim is the scoop her up before or as she hits the pad and out in the garden, if she is more interested in you when in the garden go back inside and watch from a window, when she squats wait till she is nearing the end and then go out and say "good wee wee" and treat her quick as u can and praise in a puppy voice.

If she is not in a crate when u are not there, she really has no guide to go from and will eliminate anyhwere, more so beds if u have a solid floor, so if not already introduce a small crate, place a plastic bed in and a nice comfy bed, so basically she has room to curl up in the bed and not much else, and limit water when she is left in there, i.e measured amount, then allow her to add lib when u are home from the main water bowl.

Thanks all, Cayla yes we have laminate floors, we have a crate for her but as she has been weeing on bedding I haven't shut her in for any length of time, she likes it and take treats and toys in there, so will follow that route, she is a Spinone and as a breed they do drink a lot, and so wees alot.

In general large breeds are easier to train, but 10 weeks is still tiny weany and I would expect her to wee, I suppose it's the dribling thats odd, u may want to take a pee sample if she carries on with this just to rule out a uti, otherwise I would order some vet bed to help u clean it easier and I would close the crate door, I would even go so far as to buy a smaller crate or get a divider..... if u bought one for when she gets bigger and it's rather large now whilst she is so small, literally my pups like my little rescue was in a titchy crate only big enough for her to sit within the plastic bed, she could not walk on the bottom of the crate, she could sit and chew her chweys and her teddy sibling was beside her and the limited water she got was cliped onto the crate as it would not have fitted on the floor of the crate as the bed took it up, she had 1 accident and has never had one since, now she can jsut go in with vet bed and plastic bed out ans she is clean as a whistle.
The best rule of thimb with training either for anxiety or toilet is start small and gradually increase, so no free time out of crate when u are not there (door closed) and in same room when u are, or else if busy back in crate.
She may have the odd accident for a few weeks yet but she should eventually get your routine and guidance.
