Any advise on house training a 6mth springer bitch whos been in kennels so no house training, its also no collar or lead experience either but does have good recall as walked with other rescue dogs.

??????

I would get a crate and train it from the crate.......as giving it the run of the house or delegated room will give it more fredom to mess........it is more likely to mess when u leave it or havent got your eye on it, so by placing it in the crate at these times........will allow u to let it straight from the crate to the garden and praise when passing a motion, either by voice GOOD PUPPY, or a treat upon relief.
The puppy should assosiate the praise/treat when it passes a motion outside.

Make the transition to the crate positive by giving long lasting chews or a kong filled with goodies when u leave it and its always best to place it in the crate when u r in the house, until it gets used to being alone......always leave the radio on and only leave for short periods at first......dont make a big deal when u get home no greetings.......just straight out into the garden, then praise upon passing motions.

Also use the crate for bed time......so no messing during the night.

Try using a halti to train when walking.......I dont use them, but I have heard plenty of others use them on HHO,
puppy Spaniels can be a little manic so try not to over praise or give to much attention, esp in the settling in perios and try booking into your local training class for some basic training and puppy play time.

GOOD LUCK

Ps if u use the crate for training remember the puppy will most probably cry and try to get your attention......It is important u ignore this as talking/petting or opening the cage to comfort the puppy will be giving in to the whole crate breaking situation......and will give the puppy the attention it is seeking from u and freedom from the cage

Ps if the puppy has never had a collar or lead on before

try placing a collar on straight away whilst in the house so she gets used to the sensation of wearing it, and use a treat distraction whilst training to the lead......only use these treate as a luxury training aid......otherwise using them all the time will de-value there training worth.
Use small pieces of chicken and cheese something that she will be desperate to get her lips around.......u r probably going to be doing alot of training with her and will need these treats to reward her for her tasks.
Whilst holding the lead place the treat in the hand on the side you want her to heel and let her nibble it for a while before allowing her to take it...........always make sure the treats are cut into small pieces so she takes them quickly without having to chew or drop them........as u will loose her attention.
This may distract her from the fact that she has a lead attached to her, always give her positive commands GOOD PUPPY, HEEL GOOD PUPPY, and be gentle if a first she is a little scatty and scared.

If instead she just pulls u everywhere, change direction so she has to catch back up to u, and only alow her to take a treat when she is by your side, and give her your command.

If u choose to join a puppy class they will teach you haow to train and socialise her, maybe look for advertisments in your local vets.

I would crate it too, and put it outside every couple hours to wee/poo. It will hopefully get the idea of doing its stuff outside. With lots of attention and love your dog will come right, you just need to pursafere (spelt wrong).
