Tom Thumb bit 2 the sweetiron. Bought one yesterday and it had a label on it saying dr. bristow?? Confused, perhaps the label was wrong. Was told it was a moderate bit that would give me extra brakes when jumping/fast work etc? Fly has a large tongue and this hopefully will be comfortable for him.
i have got a sweet iron tom thumb with copper ridges, a french link type lozenge with copper rings on the middle - bought from shires (wench you are correct shires online does have a label/pic mix up)
its a good bit for my mare she really likes it but i do have to vaseline the corners of her mouth as she is very sensitive. she responds very well to this bit
in my opinion they are quite severe but i have very soft hands. i use it for fast work or when my mare is getting a bit gobby on XC, it does the trick nicely. i have used it with two reins or just one.
i have also used it copper ridges down (on the bars of her mouth) and copper ridges up as it can be inverted, to see if theres a difference but she doesnt seem to care either way. (what i just said may not make sense until you have seen it, then it will, lol!)
Yes it is a shires! I think the dr bristows refers to the link in the middle so instead of a frenchlink (which probably would have been too mild for my lad) it has a dr bristows! (eh, does that make sense?) Will see how he goes, if it ever stops raining that is.
