Has anyone used one on their horse. Friend gave me one to try on my mare, its got a sweet iron double jointed mouthpiece and in the middle its got copper rings, rode her yesterday round the roads in it and seemed ok, taking her for a canter tonight so we will see what happens..

If this makes any sense cos its not a tom thumb I've got the sanffle version and it really makes anything i've ridden in it really light and responsive. I really love them

Well the lady that has lent it to me has the snaffle version too to mouth her youngster in as she said horses just really take to it!!!
So we will see tonight if I have brakes and if her front feet stay on the ground when I ask her to slow down

What does the snaffle one look like. When I w ent to try my new mare, she was ridden in a tom thumb with the rings in the middle. She went lovely in it, but me being me, I changed to french link loose ring, and then a waterford to jump in, as this is what he did flatwork in.
I have taken her out competing and could just do with some more brakes but thought the TT looked a little harsh.
Maybe I will try it sometime soon. The NS jumper looks similar and I am tempted to try this.

I think they are fantastic! Because the ring is so small they are 'nippy' so you can be really precise and fast with your aids and therefore gentler than hauling on their mouths. I don't particularly like that mouthpice though, because the central link is so wide so it pinches the lips- just my personal opinion. However you can get one with a lozenge in the centre (CotswoldSport sell them) and they are brilliant!

I love mine too, Marnie is really light in it. I had the same problem with pinching her lips, but bit rings solved that...

Thank peeps for your replies took her for a blast tonight and I has brakes yay lol

. But she was really tense and spooky for some reason!!! Do you think this could be to do with the bit??? She is'nt usually like it so hacking tomorrow morning to see if she is any better x.

use one and love it. changed to or normal loosering today and oh my god what a difference ! back to tom thumb next time. horse is Very on forehand, but tt helps a lot, lighter, bends, had to put curb chain on mine though for extra brakes !!!!!

will be sticking with it

p.s. i used double reins
