Tom thumb bits

i use the above, but could do with extra brakes with it, would a chin chain thingy round in chin groove help ?

and if so what bit do I put it too ????

A curb chain turns it into a 'pelham' style bit so you get the extra brakes.

You attach to the top rings, even though it sits higher than a curb chain, it still works.
 
I use a similar tom thumb but with rollers and a part copper mouthpiece which is interchangeable - milder one way round more severe the other - I find the very exuberent pony we use it on is very respectful provided it is used with soft/light hands!!
 
We've had a few people moan about those as they said they didn't like the rough side. I am not sure they twigged you could put it the other way around !!!
 
Ive used this bit lots of times with a copper roller mouth piece.
As someone has already said I have thought it is a great bit as long as you have soft hands and a horse respects it so I find they onyl a light reminder every now and again rather than a constant pull of a softer bit

really? how does that work?

i have this bit and didnt know this!! although cant see how it would work as pony loves the mouthpeice and isnt the mouthpeice quite kind?!
