Tommy has been my first little welsh and I have to say I have been doing alot of research into them and just generally finding out about different bloodlines, Also been talking with tommys breeder Connor McCormick who is a huge show person over here, he has bred alot of top quality ponies in his time .

Thanks Carysdb he is pretty special to me.

Lol, I think he is stunning and you so need to break him to drive as well, brilliant for Private drive, think if you brought him over here he would do well, think of taking him to Royal Welsh next year, its only a short ferry crossing

I'll let him keep Tommy, for now

I'm only just scraping 5ft & when the time is right for me to go pony shopping again I'm seriously considering looking at a Welsh B/C.

Do you think I'd look ridiculous on something like that?

I'm very petite though so maybe not. As I say, scraping 5ft & 7st so not much different to the average 11/12 year old!!!

Always loved Welshies so I am very tempted.... Especially if it has the nature of T. I need something that'll build my confidence back up.

I used to have a section C, I think you'd look fine on a 13.2hh cob type.

I'm very short in the leg. VERY short. Age 12 jeans fit me perfectly! So very short. I find the wideness of cobs uncomfortable because of this so would prefer a pony on the taller side of the Sec B instead of the C.

I haven't ridden now for a year because of health probs & my NF is just too much for me confidence wise so a calm & gentle Sec B would be ideal!

Just gathering ideas at the mo, nothing is set in stone but looking at the two, Sec B & C, I do prefer the look & build of the B.

Do you think 13hh or so Sec B would be acceptable for my size? I don't want to look like a pea on a drum but at the same time don't want to look like I'm too big for the pony!

You should be fine on a Section B, but do remember that the B's are known as the thoroughbred of the Welshies

I suppose it depends on the pony's build as some Bs can be really fine. Something this size and build would be good, what d'ya reckon?:

I've seen adults show-riding shetlands. And they look fine.

If you get a chunky enough pony it will look fine. Section B's tend to have alot of TB in them now, which doesnt always bode too well for the more nervous rider, and more tradional sec B's are rare (because everyone wants the finely built show pony). I'd be tempted to find an over-height sec A (say 12.2hh) and re register it as a section B... then you'll have the fab sec A breeding without the hot - headedness.

Yes! That sort of build is ideal!

Zigxag; I don't mind a bit of fizz as long as the pony itself is safe, ie, not liable to bolt off/nap/rear/buck. A bit of jogging etc is fine & I don't want something half dead, just that is solid in traffic & not as I said above

I will def keep a Sec B in mind once the right time comes to seriously start looking.

Was toying with the idea of driving , as when both boys grow out of him I really dont want to sell him . I know a man over the road from me who drives all the time so would defintely keep me on the right track when it comes to breaking him to drive .
smile.gif
Thanks zig x
Thing is hes so good at everything he does, be it jumping( real good at this
grin.gif
)showing, m&m classes, working hunter, games or hacking . He has it all .

C_M85 , I think you would be fine on a sec b and only 7st ? what age are you ?
blush.gif
You sure your not 12 ??
tongue.gif

Il let him know
wink.gif

Just wondering if I was to drive him at what age would be a no no ? I mean can you still break them to drive at an older age , well when I say older Im talking in the next 5 years ... At that stage both boys will be grown out of him , well not so much cormac but near enough . I dont want to confuse the poor sod .

That's a really good idea. I didn't know that that sort of breeding has come into the B.

My max height would be 13.2 & that would be pushing it. I am seriously short & even look tiny on my old 14.2hh mare so a 12.2 might just be about the right fit.

TBH. I'm lucky if I'm nearer 5ft than 4'11!

& I am light so I suppose I wouldn't look out of place on a 12.2

I don't mind ponies either as I am not a serious comp rider, just enjoy hacking & maybe the odd M&M show or local show.

Really appreciate the advice guys. Keep it coming! Thanks
