Tongue Layer - How on earth do I fit it?!

As title says really.... Have been riding a youngster who is hell bent on getting his tongue over the bit, my instructor has suggested a rubber tongue layer, so I have bought one but cannot for the life of me work out how I fit it on to the bit.......

Tongue lollers just loop through the top hole

However before doing this - have you swapped into a double joint and considered the shape of the mouth?

If using a standard single joint and he is pulling his tongue back as it is pinching it or trying to put his tonuge in front of the mouthpiece to stop it hitting the roof of his mouth, this is not the kindest route to take
