My little spanish horse constantly lolls his tongue. He is quite relaxed, but the tongue remains hanging out of his mouth most of the time whilst I'm riding him and sometimes when he is just relaxing out in the field.
I've been told that a KK correction bit might help but it is a very expensive experiment to see if it does. I currently ride him in a neue schule vebinden which seems good for his large tongue and low palate. Has anyone got a kk correction bit that I might borrow?

Don't wish to be a wet blanket but if it is an established habit I think you're wasting time & money trying different bits. Been there done that got the T shirt - all VERY expensive! My horse has a small mouth therefore tongue seems large (but it isn't really) from very young he has lolled his tongue out of his mouth both when ridden & in the stable though I've never noticed it in the field but he's too busy eating! The only time he doesn't do it is when I ride him in a bitless bridle. I've tried the KK - no difference. He's better under saddle when being challenged to think & work hard but as soon as walk comes into it the tongue appears, it's his relaxation but sadly dressage & showing judges don't see it like that! Jump judges don't have a problem with it.

2nd Mari Im afraid. I too have a horse with an annoying tongue habit and Ive tried pretty much every bit going including the correction bit and nothing helps apart from strapping his mouth shut which I hate doing as he still tries to do it.
8 yrs on Im having to learn to live with it :(

Thank you all for your comments. Although it doesn't really help the tongue lolling, at least I know I'm not the only one with the problem! Wouldn't change him for the world so looks like I'll just have to put up with it.

some years ago i had a horse with this habit. he was really bad in any type of jointed bit so in desperation i tried a half moon snaffle and he was much more comfortable. it might be worth a try as this would be a much less expensive option...
