Why - last night in the school - my horse gave me some of the best canter work we have ever had, he was elevating and so so responsive its unture. I only had to think canter and he was their.

This morning in the field - i ask for canter what do i get "bucking bronco", I ask for canter what do i get "deer leaps" - I ask for canter what do i get ? "plunging with a bit of bucking bronco". What went wrong ?

Gave up in the end as my nerve went a little so i went back to trot work.

Will try again tomorrow
 
No - just i am a *hit rider and was way too tense and was saying go with the legs and no with the hands. Must admit Mr Schoolmaster was having none of it, he basically said "if you will not ask me properly, you can bugger off!" He was being kind tonight though, as if he wanted he could have dropped me without batting his big long eyelashes !

Can you be agraphobic and ride horses?
 
Is it because you were riding in a field rather than in a school? we had a pony that used to go silly when ridden in a field but was an angel in the school
 
He used to do this in the school and i practiced and practiced until it stopped - however i came off in the field on one of his rodeo's last year - so i suppose it is always at the back of my mind. Plus we only get to ride in the field after it has been harvested - so only a few more weeks left before it gets ploughed in again

Just started having lessons again and went down the school to do my homework.....
Last lesson was great, yet tonight i couldn't ride one side of him

Yep - i love him to bits - if i didn't he would have been sold last year. I just beat myself up that i will never ride him properly and go through these peaks and troughs - but me being me, I always focus on the negatives lol
 
tonight mathew my horse was a numpty as well, bucking like a mad man. Some evenings I ride and he is great. Other evenings he acts like he is clueless.
 
They all have ups and downs

Mine will go from 'I can canter on a loose rein and do it well' to 'do WHAT? CANTER? No, I wold much rather rear, buck and fly leap like some kind of rodeo bronc..because I'm that cool'.
So long as you still have the ups, its not so bad!
