I m 5'8" and weigh 8st 5lbs. I m looking at a horse to loan tomorrow who is 14.2hh, I wouldn't say she's finely built but definitely not chunky.

I ride my friends horse who is about 14.3 he looks the same build and I've been told that I suit him.

I've never seen this horse in person before or ridden it, I don't mind smaller horses and seem to fit them well when riding. but I'm wondering if anyone would consider me too big or tall? I wouldn't be doing anything more than hacking and a bit of schooling.

I also really don't want the owner to take one look at me and think I'm too big.

Thanks for any advice or help! :) xx

You may look tall depending on how you are built (eg do you have long legs/short torso etc) but at 8st 5 you certainly aren't going to be too big/heavy :)

I have a 14hh/14.1hh Connemara, she has a fair bit of bone but is definitely not cobby and I'm 5'4 1/2, I fit her fine and feel the right size, whereas my friend who is at least 5'7 is more than happy on her 13.2 cob. It's mostly down to weight more than anything, and imo as long as you're happy and the horse is happy it shouldn't matter :)
