Pony is 12.2 welsh X, 23 years old healthy bit overweight and very stubborn with slightly bad brakes when it comes to road junctions
I am 5'3" and weigh a bit under 8.5 stone

Am i too big to try and school her a bit now and then?

MM not sure I am not expecting anything of her in terms of proper schooling. It would just be good if she were to understand STAND, Its not so bad at the moment as i mainly walk along side but aim to ride out together which means i wont be there to grab if needed!

I'm sure you'll be ok.

I have been known to get on my 11.2hh while out on a long walk just to catch my breath. I'm 5'7" and alot heavier than 8.5 stone!!
I also occasionally school my daughters 13.1hh..nothing major but just a reminder of a few basic manners..

I would have thought it would be fine. Naughty little ponies need punishing from time to time with a "heavy" adult riding them for a change. It doesn't sound like you have a load of hard work planned for her, just standing still and waiting for the traffic to pass...

If she's well and doesn't have any back trouble, no probs. Welshies carry great big farmers up mountains. I weigh a lot more than you and I've been on my daughter's 12hh Welsh A when he was really having a laugh.
Our boy's pretty canny. I didn't have to get on him very often

Yes, it's funny that isn't it Skewbald? Once they realise that you WILL get on them if they're really naughty, they seem to back off a bit!

Im 5ft2-3 and weigh just over 8 stone and i rode a welsh section A today! 11.2! Carryed me fine! In fact bigger has been on her! She is younger though! Other then that last factor i think you will be fine! Especially as 'ou said now and then!

I think you will be fine. I (under protest) got on my sons sec a when he was being a little sOd, it was only for 10 mins to sort him out a bit as he was taking the mick. He tried it on with me too and certainly didn't buckle under me. I am 5'8 and 10st. Just the once but it served a purpose. He probably thought, i had better behave or that big heifer will get back on lol
These ponies were bred to carry men up the welsh hills.

No you're not.
Obviously don't go belting up steep hills etc but there is no reason at all you can't ride a pony.
People are far to precious re weights on ponies these days, they are tough little devils who can easily carry a lightweight adult who rides "light".
For the doubters, haven't you ever seen the Mongolion horses who are ridden day in day out by men? They appear perfectly capable of carrying them and gallop like the wind showing no stress or worry at all.
Sort that pony out, you can't allow a dangerous habit to form.
