took my little NF out for a fast hack tuesday and found she was really sweaty and blowing when we got back, we have a 13 mile pleasure ride next sunday and she is soo hairy already!

opinions on clipping in september? :)

I would clip. Just rug appropriately for turn out.

I have clipped early for eventing before (mid Sept). Makes it much easier on pony, especially if you happen to have a warm day for your ride.

:D

cheers, thats what i was thinking, theres just some people that think clipping at the wrong time of year can ruin the coat for next year, but she's not going to be shown at any particular level so makes sense or she'll cook herself XD i dont know why she's so furry this year! last year she wasnt this bad XD

Never too early to clip. clipping now just means in a few weeks you'll find you need to clip again.
People leave clipping as long as possible so to limit the amount of times they need to clip in the season.

My gelding was clipped this summer. Never had a good summer coat.

My boy could do with a clip now if doing hard work, but my TB still has a nice summer coat.

Pony dependant.

Clip if you feel he'd be more comfortable on the pleasure ride.

If your last clip is late it can effect the summer coat. clipping early has no effect as they'll lose all of it before next year.

Pea is very bad this year, guess he's getting ready for a cold winter, hes a good dector.
I am thinking of clipping him as he is really hairy and sweating, just sent blades off so hoping back asap. Will have to do dressage this wkend fluffy and sweaty. Our mare is so fine coated planning to leave as long as possible before clipping.

I'm clipping mine this weekend, but thats because she has a few big outings over the next few weeks, so I want to keep her as comfortable as possible, and clipping her out helps that! I used to clip my old boy all summer round, so it's never too early ;)

It's fine to clip when you like. My SJ mate clips hers all yr round. Personally, I just cannot face all that hair just yet. It gets everywhere. I detest clipping, but it has to be done....!
