just wondering if this advert was too fussy and if not, how much would you expect to pay for something like this?

14.2-15.3hh mare or gelding, pref not something too fine and not something too chunky, any colour, no vices, good to load, for the vet, farrier ect. (not too bothered if they are a bit of a bum to catch), schooled well, with or without shoes, pref without, great confidence giver, forward but not stupid, has breaks, hacks alone and in company, front or back of the ride, and excellent in traffic. I dont mind if they 'look' at things but as long as it doesnt do stupid things when they spook. Excellent ground manners and good temp too. inc full wardrobe. Used for hacks, funrides and some local shows- jumping, cross country and dressage.

just curious... ;) please dont slate my post. im 17 and just wondered if there was such a thing out there? and how much people would be willing to pay/ sell theirs for (not looking atm though!). gives me time to save if the right horse comes along.

Yeah, I think it is a little too specific for a first add - you can always ask people for more information when they get in touch with you. I would also reword it as it is written in a very informal way and I found it quite hard to follow.
Maybe something more like...
Seeking 14.2 - 15.3 mediumweight, sex and colour unimportant.
Looking for something well behaved with farrier, vet etc, easy to handle with no vices.
Need to be sensible out hacking, alone and in company, to give confidence, and well schooled.
Am looking to do hacking, fun rides, and local shows.
Good home waiting.

ah yes! thank you. that does sound much better!

i agree, at some points it read more like an offered rather than wanted. just keep it concise and have those detail chats on the phone. also, you might surprise yourself -it may be that you could deal with not having one of those conditions if you really get on with a horse.

As above its abit too specific. In regards to full wardrobe, I have probably only seen two advert in the last three months offering this.

Bit too specific, as like others have said you can always enquire further when you have someone on the phone :) You would probably have to look to pay £4,000, more or less depending on it's appearence and what it's done. You could get a very good horse for not a lot of money if you're willing to look at older animals. (sort of 14+)

To be honest, when looking for a riding horse, you do have to compromise. I always said 'no thoroughbreds' and 'no welsh Ds', as I always wanted ISHs, but ended up with two tbs and a tb x welsh, all were perfect for what I wanted. (and good TBs are cheap!) I refused to compromise on my dressage boy, but it took me a year and a half to find him, and we're talking about an unbroken three year old here... So yes, there's usually something you need to compromise on, unless you're willing to wait a while :p

Shorter adverts grab attention, especially if you use a big bold font, so something like this;

"Looking to buy: 14.2hh - 15.3hh mediumweight confidence giving allrounder, good to hack alone and in company/clip/box/shoe. Kind temperment essential, wanted for hacking and riding club activities. Good home awaits."

Sorry for the horribly long reply, but I've had a lot of experience with buying (especially recently!!) and so know what a long and frustrating process it can be!! Good luck finding your perfect horse, I'm sure you'll manage to find one quicker than me!! :D

Sounds like my pony but he is not for sale!

You haven't specified an age but I think around the £3K to £4K mark for something that is around 6-10.

Agree with other people about the wordiness - definitely keep the ad snappy as per the suggestions people have put up.

One other thing to consider that you have not put up there is if they are a good do-er and if they live in/out over winter. Can make a big difference to your expenses and was an important factor for me when I was buying.
