Too good to be true?

i almost fell for it all, i was just about to pay a deposit and then i decided i would rather see the lorry first but "norman reil" said he had soo many offers but i was the only one prepared to pay full price he would only hold it for me if i paid a deposit.... rubbish!
then a week later i looked at a manufactures website saw the same lorry for 5 times the price! (admittedly it was overpriced i felt)
now i have no transport as i sold my trailer to save up for this amazing chance to buy a small lorry
silly me:o:o:o:o:o

also the advert is back on horsemart everyone

When I buy stuff on eBay over an amount I'm happy to lose I ask for a photo of the item with a piece of paper with the eBay username infront/on it. Always had people happy to email this to me.

I found a 3.5 t on ebay 2009 reg for £3k said on advert not to contact via ebay as it was linked to his work email and it gave private e-mail address. Only problem was it was located in Jersey but for that price I was willing to go and get it.

Got into various e-mails said just split up with wife so cheap to pay solicitor bills.
Said it was actually in scotland but someone would deliver it to us for £100

Next e-mail sent said he had set up a holding account with e-bay we pay the £3k into it they hold for 3 days, we take delivery and if not happy with box not to accept delivery, money still in holding account so we can get it back.
He sent an email looked like genuine ebay e-mail and just had to follow the link to put money into this ebay holding account.
We started to become suspisious at this point and my hubby is quite comp literate and checked where the e-mail link had come from and it was another private e-mail address, we then checked with ebay and they dont do any holding accounts!

It was quite plausable to start with and you think you are getting a right bargain.

Apologies to those that have, but I really cannot believe that people would transfer thousands of pounds for something that they haven't even seen! I wouldn't buy any horsebox without going to see it, and paying cash on delivery, and to expect to get a virtually new horsebox for that money too.. You have to be sensible, even for the "reasons for quick sale" listed above, you should still check everything out.

^ Honey a holding account used to be used a lot more that it is now. Technically any deposit should be put in a holding account until sale is complete/services finished but rarely happens.

There are a lot of reasons it may be done and I've used holding accounts in the past with no trouble.

In fact I used a similar set up to buy a very good camera (well over the thousand mark) 2 years ago. I hadn't seen the item in the flesh and was several hundred cheaper than standard price for good condition second hand. I got a very good deal. There are lots of things you can do to make the transaction less of a risk though.

I have reported at least 5 Equi-treks on Ebay now. It seems to be a really common one. All of them had bids at the time. The way you can usually tell is if the description is too vague or if the pics look quite generic. If not sure ask for more photos or about some specific information about the trailer. if they are genuine then you will get a response. Fair play to Ebay though they have all been pulled within 24hrs.

I had similar with a 7.5t box back in December. He said it was in Edinburgh, I offered to travel up to see it and he said he would have it delivered to me if I put the money in a holding account. I emailed back and told him he was a fraudster and reported it to ebay straight away. Apparently I was not the first to report it!! No way will I part with my hard earned cash without seeing a lorry first:mad:

They are still at it on horsemart. I have reported something like 8 attempts this week. Horse mart have pulled the adverts, but they are listed again, with various descriptions, within an hour.
Here's the latest one:
http://www.horsemart.co.uk/horsebox_carries_2_stalls_x_reg_london/Horseboxes-Trailers/263486

And the genuine vendor:

If anyone else would like to push the button on the fake, please accompany me in doing so.

I'm sorry but anyone who thinks that looks like a 5k box must be mad!

and the ad doesn't match up with regards to reg.. they don't try very hard do they...

Found another one on eBay. This trailer was advertised on Preloved in January with a seller in Reading. Ebay seller is in Bridgewater....

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Cheval-li...080&pid=100015&prg=1006&rk=1&sd=170989029896&

Seller has no feedback score. Advertises as free P & P! Just one photo. 3 day listing again!

Asked the seller for more photos and some details he could not know, if he didn't have the trailer. No answer since yesterday - surprise, surprise!

Reported it to eBay today.

Reported that too. The viky with selling variations, has not posted a the minute, again.
Suspect they will do.
Hope no one falls for any of the scams, but imagine someone very sadly, will.
Are you any further with things having some kind of resolution, Billie?

I came across one only yesterday - IW 511 advertised on ebay for £2400 in Edinburgh. When asked for further pics she said she was working away in France and could deliver box to anywhere in UK for same price - I then asked for VIN plate details and she point blank refused. I forwarded details to IW even though there was nothing they could do without chassis number etc but they pointed out that in fact if you looked closely at the photos she was advertising two different trailers !!!

Just for info for everyone Chester is another place that these guys say the 'trailer' is, through adverts on ebay. Also offering to 'deliver anywhere in the UK for thhe price'.

This is the chap who conned me. He's West African and lives in Leicester. Used exactly the same line. Working away in France and will deliver anywhere. Where is it advertised?

Would be helpful, as the Police is watching him and waiting for him to strike again.

Thanks.
