Too heavy to ride?

At 12 and half stone Im a size 12, my friend is same weight but almost a foot shorter and shes a 16-18. In reply to original post, don't sit on another living thing to lose weight, lose it first then use riding as a reward.

Well, I agree that 21 stone is too heavy.

But bear in mind that a TB racehorse can be expected to carry 12 stone 7 in a point to point (and even some more I think), that is galloping and jumping for 3 miles.

Also, what are the hunter weight limits. The Lightweights are supposed to carry 12stone 7lb, I think, the Medium 14 stone and I don't know what the heavyweight and heavyweight cobs are supposed to carry.

If riding schools have a weight limit of 14 st then how would they cater for men??

My husband is 6ft 4 and is more than 14st, he is not overweight but as a manual worker is pure muscle.

What gets me about troll posts is that they still get genuine replies, even tho it's already been discussed as a possible troll. Is it that peeps don't read the while thread - just curious.

No, it's that not all of us think that any and every new poster is a troll. Regardless of whether it sounds fishy to me it is really unfair to write new members off so quickly.

a genuine new poster does not post a contraversial topic FOR A FIRST POST and then run, sorry.

HHO's need to wise up, or the whole forum will become a debate about trolls, and peeps who really need advice will miss out.

this is another thread that needs to RIP.

Maybe, but what is in this for the "troll"? I don't see what they have to gain from posting...so maybe they are asking a question and just aren't glued to their computer?

perhaps because they're interested in the subject or debate, and feel it doesn't matter who started it?

The topic takes on a life of its own, whether or not the op is 'real'. :)

Harlequin, once you have been here a while, you will realise HHO is a magnet for trolls and many of us now know exactly how they operate.

Therefore as shysmum says, "oh please"

I can't say I care who they are. The thread's interesting and amusing. As is the nanny one.

If people don't like a thread, why do they bother posting on it? They only bump it to the top.

And she is dead right. The OP *troll* has got exactly what she wanted......everyone that is over weight justifying it. :)

Whaaaaa? There's a couple of us more hefty lasses that regularly post to say 'no do not get on your horse -yes you are too fat to ride!'

Or are you deliberately poking the fatties and trying to wake us out of our inactive slumber?:D

Not poking, just a little nudge.

I'm not trying to justify my weight :)

Troll or no troll these threads will appear on relevant searches and so if they contain useful information so much the better. Someone genuinely that weight would perhaps hesitate to ask the question so any genuine information is only a good thing

I'd hate to pull up this thread on a search and only see sarcastic and biting responses, it would put me right off the forum

Trolls are not unique to HHO though. Anyone who's used forums for years is just as familiar with the ways of trolls. :)

How much does a troll weigh? I have no idea and probably wouldn't let one near my horse as would be worried it might take a wee nibble.

On a serious note it is worth trying to keep a healthy weight and it's not an easy thing to do sometimes. I expect some people who maybe are in a position where they wonder if they are too heavy to ride would be reading this with interest as it's probably the kind of thing some may be too worried or embarrassed to ask about.

I posted my post in good humour, goodness me.

I guess that's ok if you don't care about the people or horses in the topic and whether its real, fantasy or malicous. It doesn't matter then.

When HHH's horses were ill and PTS, I cared.

When Patterdale had her baby, I cared.

When HHO members organised a relay of transport to get a rescue pony across the country to a new home, I cared.

Sometimes, I have posted equipment to east Europe or donated cash for those in need, because I cared.

Yes, it matters very much that people are real, I don't want to waste my compassion on non existent triplets or a member dying in an accident because some idiot poster craves being the centre of attention.
