Too heavy to ride?

Hmm he breaks them in too and also has his own business breaking..... never had a problem yet.... but he rides light and is very experienced was bought his first pony as a toddler and has always worked with horses.....

Rides light , yes , a two point seat ,the norm in racing. concentrates all the weight on a very small area of the back ,between tne stirrup bars. I am sure that he is far from being the worst out there ,by a huge margin, but it is far from ideal .

Well his boss thinks he is ideal and he look ill when he is racing weight so everyone is happy :D

I see H&H is at its usual welcoming self :(

OP if your enquiry is genuine as others have said she will need to lose weight to ride for her own comfort not just of the horse she will ride in future but there are still ways to be involved with horses that she could build into her exercise program to lose the necessary weight. She should speak to her doctor first about the level of exercise she is able to do and start off slowly with a review of her diet and portion sizes if that is what she wants to do.

I was far too heavy to ride when I wanted to get back involved with horses I have absolutely no excuse beyond I hate seeing food go to waste and my son does not always have the best appetite so I ate what he left... it went downhill from their as it added to my already weight gain.

You could offer to do poo picking and use it as a foot through the door as well as a beneficial part of an exercise routine. Anyone can poo pick and its not a job most people actually want to do. Its not much but its around horses and if you can find the right yard with the right people they will teach you the basics like grooming, sweeping the yard and carrying buckets of water is all exercise.

Don't listen to all these skinny minis who have the luxury of riding their mounts, good luck its a lovely goal to work towards.

Not not a walking miracle..??? Defo not got no boob job but am large up top, all my own though.

And still only a size 14 and most defiantly not over 12.5stone..!!!

And I have a few friend a similar height all weight around 11.5 stone, size 14 and very far from a Skeleton and also very far from being fat.!!

Actually that puts you slap bang in the middle of your ideal weight range.

My sister went to racing school maximum weight allowed was 9 stone 7. You do get heavier jockeys they would not get in racing school and would most likely get fewer rides. That is the maximum weight allowed for The British racing school even to this day, she attended over 22 years ago and even now it's never changed.

When I worked in a racing yard 9stone 7 lbs was the required weight. Mind you it was a few years ago.

It was when I was involved ,but that was for a flat racing yard ,and frankly, you need a bit of weight behind you to ballance a tired chaser . I would rather be nearer springys oh,s 13 st than 9,7 .

I remember once being a size 14-16 at around that weight :D

Now if only wishful thinking were all it took to get back there...

He went to BRS in 1993..... but he doesnt need to be anywhere near that light now, in those days he was carrying 3 stone of lead to race.. and we all know a rider riding light is better than a dead weight of lead :)

It was just to make the point that tbs are racing carrying weights that some people have said even a cob cant carry......

(he has just added that the rule isnt 9'7 now)

How come so light when the mens open is 12.7lb and penalty to 13stone?

Each to their own I suppose

They dont need to carry the weight in training every day. Just to add I am 10 stone and consider myself too heavy at the moment to ride my horse, TB, in a racing saddle for the reason Mike007 has said.

3 st of lead is a killer . totaly agree. also you need the weight and strength. This supposed troll post certainly is proving thought provoking isnt it:D

Are you an EU citizen between 16 - 22 years old?
Do you weigh less than 9st 7lbs/60kg and physically fit?
Are you looking for an exciting career?
If the answer is YES you are in the right place!

Why would auld lang syne be a walking miracle at that size or have had a boob job? I'm the same height, but a small 8 & just under 9stone. If I put on 3 & 1/2 stone I'd be far bigger than size 14. And going off similar height friends, I imagine only a very small minority of females would be built so that at 5'10 & size 14 they'd be over 12&1/2 stone.

I like the line from the BRS -

And

Physically fit..!!

That's my main point..!! If you majorly overweight, can you really be physically fit - as to get fit you have to do lots of excercise - exercise equals weight loss

Weight loss means no longer large and heavy..!!

I| gave up trying to understand womens sizes years ago because just when you think you have got it sussed they tell you that you have got it several sizes too large (and of course at christmas nwhen you take them at their word) suddenly nothing fits:confused:

I'm no racing expert, but I did work in a predominantly racing area & socialized with racing yard staff, & I always got the impression entry weights were so low because initially jockeys don't tend to ride horses carrying penalties. Plus the fittening work, especially for horses starting out is often done by lighter jockeys. I could be off the mark cos its not something I've researched.
