After doing the housework I am now contemplating having a nice chilled hack out but good heavens it's 23 outside!
Horse is starting to get a bit fluffy. Would it be mean to take him for a ride out? Can't decide... hubby is away so no time limit... oooohhh!!!!

Rode before 8am this morning. J is like a teddy bear but I am holding off clipping for a couple of weeks for various reasons so early morning was the only option really. I would not like to be riding now, I just painted an outside wall which was drying faster than I could get the paint on - at least I will get the 2nd coat on today as well :)

I rode at 8 but one of mine is clipped already (high chaser clip) and the other hasn't really grown much coat thank god! Rode him for 30 mins last night at about 5.30pm in school mainly in trot and canter and he barely broke a sweat so that was a relief as we are doing a 12 mile sponsored ride tomorrow!! Sadly the same couldn't be said for me I was a sweaty mess!!

WHAT??!!! :D

Get out and ride people!! I was supposed to have a lesson this afternoon but we've had to cancel because it hasn't stopped pi$$ing with rain for a solid 24 hours - even if poor instructor was willing to stand out and get drenched whilst shouting at us, the normally fast-draining arena resembles a swamp. Even my pure bred pedigree Kerry bog hippo of a horse was looking thoroughly miserable and wanting into his stable earlier!

Our outdoorsy collie refused to get out of his bed this morning, and our hens are absolutely drownded and taking cover under the patio furniture (which has been used a grand total of once this summer).

It's absolutely miserable and good for nothing here. I'm very, VERY jealous of those of you basked in warm October sunshine! ;)

We hacked out this morning and it was beautiful out there - hot and and sticky but we took it easy with them. Making the most of this fab weather! :0)

I was out this morning at 7am on my hairy beastie. Wanted a blast up the stubble field before it goes under the plough!
It was glorious. Tho tomorrow i'm off hunter trialling, so will be sweltering under a back protector. Still much rather that than rain.

i got a friends daughter to ride mine this morning as i've had a headache all week and could not face putting a hat on! she'd already had a lesson on her horse so was already hot lol :D

Oh yes, been out every day in this amazing sunshine - horses are sweaty, but enjoying a complete hose down afterwards and then a roll in the dust - everyone seems mellow and I cancelled my weekend competing in favour of some good hacking!

Hmmm took the boys out for a hack today all dressed up in our wet weather gear. Now sitting in front of the telly in a thick fleecy jumper, wondering whether to light the fire tonight. Weather here has been total c**p and no sign of it getting better.

Do it Rowreach - we lit the fire as soon as we got up! No riding for us today, it's just awful. Lesson cancelled, thought about hacking down to the beach and going for a paddle (since we'd already be soaking wet anyways) but horses were just so miserable looking, and we were drownded by the time we'd even got to the field, so decided to leave them off today.

Arena is waterlogged, fields are soaked, roads flooding already - there's been a ridulous amount of rainfall. :(

My poor daughter had a PC jumping lesson at 11 today! Poor pony was foaming with sweat even though she has a chaser clip with whole neck off. I wish I had given her a full clip now! However she was still very hyper even though it was so hot! She has also got a hunter trials tomorrow so she has been dosed up on electrolytes!

Well don't tell anyone but... :p we went down at 7 this morning in our PJ's fed watered and hay'd- came back watched the rugby then went back to ride after.

It was warm but our schooling area of the field is shady, I worked my WB who hasn't grown much fluff yet for about 25 minutes and then cold hosed and then the girls walked around on the lead for half an hour on the pony and he wasn't sweaty at all.

Ride people these horses aren't made of glass just be sensible and hydrate.

I have a lesson booked for midday on Monday which I fear I may melt in

wet wet wet

Really?? How unfair! Here i am moaning about the 31 degree's we have but how brilliant to bath horses on October 1st ;-)

No I didnt ride- the village direction is too busy as full of tourists enjoying a lovely weekend and the other way has a herd or rather scary looking cows which i dont fancy tackling!

Cows scare me and these have horns

I rode this morning - we only walked and stuck to the woods where it was cool, rode through the river so horses could have a drink, and then I gave my mare a really good hose down when we got back. She loved it! :D

I am certainly not going out, too hot for me, I hate it.

For those of you havingcold ert weather, can I swop?

I am thinking about a hose down for the fluffy pony just to keep us both cool, what do ya think? Have I left it too late in the day?

I rode its 26 here just rode, schooled didnt even hack! Yesterday it was 29 so we went for a hack to one of the local rivers to cool off :p. Warmblood was dripping in sweat even though he only just started moulting and has no sign of a winter coat - so he got a nice hose down and removed a few poo stains at the same time!

I decided to go for it. I got a sandwich from the bakery on the way to the farm, and I sat in horse's field and had a nice sunny picnic!!! Then me and horse went out for a ride and headed in the direction of the beach where the cars would be travelling slower, as there are lots of motorbikes today. Lots and lots to see which had horse's eyes on stalks but good bombproofing training for him. Beach was too busy to ride on, so we went along our cantery track and to our delight the field had just been cut so we had a good blast right round the edge in the stubble! By this point horse was dripping, and we had to go back amongst the tourists to get home which was fun. REALLY tempted to stop at the pub for a cold half but didn't have any money!!!
Got horse back to farm and gave him a good wash down, he got grumpy when I did his ears! Then put him out without his grazing muzzle as it's too hot for it... and on my way home I got an ice lolly!!!! Now going to get a cool shower I think. I like days like this when I can please myself!!!!

I haven't ridden today as found suspicious lumps on my riding mare (otherwise I would have taken her out for a plod) and my other riding horse is a big black hairy heavy...with almost a full winter coat! He was sweating just standing in the field even though there is shade and breeze.

Has anyone just sponged their horses down? We sploshed the foal today as he had already lost his baby coat and got his winter woolies through, poor soul was sweating all down his legs so out came the cold water and a sponge...he loved it!

I waited out the sweltering heat and am currently out for a nice plod on the mare in a warm but nicely breezy evening :). Going to play in the stream on the way back :)...mmm pub ..cider :)

It was really hot and I would rather have not ridden but my pony is still too fat and I can only ride at weekends at the moment so had no choice.

We went out into the woods early it was still shady but he was sweaty when we got back so he had a bath. I can't believe I bathed him in October! It is only his 2nd bath this year as he only has them if it is boiling.

It is still boiling and I have got the fan on at home.

i went up with all the good intentions in the world to ride, but after i had mucked out, i decided against it- i thought i was going to pass out there was just no air flow, i was hot, sweaty, and grumpy, it was 28.5 degrees...ugh so left the horses out enjoying the breeze and munching in the field - and i went home to hydrate and sort my gump out! (had a sandwich and an ice lolly, and felt a hundred times better!)
