Too hot to ride today?

Well I took the kid & pony jumping today for a qualifier for Blue Chip & I think the pony wasn't much appreciating the 27degree heat so he pretty much told us to get stuffed & got eliminated!! Poor fatty boy was too hot & it doesn't help that he won't drink at shows :(

Had a dressage lesson at 10 this morning. Horse has neck clipped off, but he was still very hot. Cant say im enjoying this weather overly, its too damn hot! :P

I didn't ride, poor boy was sweating just standing in his stable. He has a very thick summer coat but we're competing tomorrow, so can make up for it then!

After doing the housework I am now contemplating having a nice chilled hack out but good heavens it's 23 outside!
Horse is starting to get a bit fluffy. Would it be mean to take him for a ride out? Can't decide... hubby is away so no time limit... oooohhh!!!!

23 is a lovely summer day, it isn't hot, take advantage of it while you can - on the other hand, should you be moaning about it would you kindly give me my Fall temperatures back, please;):)

It was down to 3C last night, just 9C today - I am freezing, some of my horses are acting as if they are freezing, and I am so not ready for it just yet. I hate temperatures this time of year when we go from 30C to single figures, it feels so cold, but it isn't really.

I like Spring when reaching a balmy zero after months of minus double figures is teeshirt weather:D

it's still raining :(
our outdoor is flooded and the indoor was being used for lessons so I lunged for 15 minutes and gave up.
did give him a bath though so at least he'll look presentable for our hack tomorrow - assuming we don't drown in all that rain

I had a great day! Jet is going on loan this week and my friend wanted some photos of us for her photography course, so we got dressed up in our show gear at 7am plaited up and went and had a photo shoot at the local golf course/quarry, got some good pics that were supposed to be eerie but then I changed into a white dress and went bareback and got some photos of that :D:D so I am rather pleased with the weather today. Also managed to ride Meg as well whoop whoop

He was sweating just standing in the field even though there is shade and breeze.

Has anyone just sponged their horses down? We sploshed the foal today as he had already lost his baby coat and got his winter woolies through, poor soul was sweating all down his legs so out came the cold water and a sponge...he loved it!

Yup - Sec D young man is v hairy now and has likewise been sweaty last couple of days just mooching about the field, despite shade..so have sponged him down which he's seemed to appreciate..love him, he seems to really struggle in the heat...he is currently sporting half a black cotton bra off the side of his headcollar - it was the only thing I could think of to shield his poor big pink lips from getting fried to a crisp (having been unattended to most of his life so far, he's obviously suffered a lot of sunburn which makes him utterly adamant about no one going anywhere near his muzzle, so long road ahead of desensitisation). Have to say, it actually doesn't look too humiliating - kind of like a blinker that's slipped! He is however, permanently wearing an expression of 'I hate my life' at the moment....

I'm afraid I lunged Kal today . . . but only b/c I missed the boat for riding b/c we had a competition at the yard and I couldn't get into the arena. Won't make the same mistake tomorrow.

Have to say, though, that my boy was really good lunging . . . used the pessoa and he really tried and worked well (and got a bath afterwards) . . . love my beautiful boy.

I felt bad after jumping my girl yesterday in preparation for tomorrow (first show since tendon injury!) she was dripping a puddle in the wooly coat. so today she got treated to a hunter clip, cold bath after, gentle walk up the bridle path (inc eating the yummy lush grass up there! ) another cold bath back at the stables and lots of carrots :). she seemed quite impressed!

Blinking hot hot hot here! Would have ridden first thing, but went to Liverpool Vet School open day and had an early (early!) start. D1 rode Nice Lad when we got back. He's furring up a bit, but didn't sweat up :D

Definitely clipping everything in sight this week though

Got to the yard and pony had a sweaty chest and sweaty hindlegs just standing in her stable, so I got the clippers out and shaved the lot off! Now she looks really smart. I am a bit cross with myself as I'd meant to wait until the clocks changed so I wouldn't have to clip again, but she's such a hot little horse it wasn't really fair.

I'd love to ride! Even though I desperately want proper Autumn weather ,it really is quite nice to have a couple of nice days.
Sadly I sliced the bottom of my toe open yesterday and can't put shoes on, so no riding for me :(

Went for a lovely hack today, it was warm but we were in the woods so nice and shady. They both had a nice bath when we got back! Very strange weather, a nice little bonus before the crappy winter weather comes in!
