I can't believe it. We finally get some consistant warm dry weather, good for the horses, good for us but it's TOO warm! My horses live out 24/7 in the summer time and it's the only time I can have a bit of a lie in at the weekends with no clock watching. I couldn't ride early this morning as I had a hair appointment and by this afternoon it was just too muggy. Tomorrow we are off to the CLA fair so no riding again. Monday back to work! On the plus side, my mare is looking very shiny and clean as she is having plenty of wash downs which she loves. I will take her for a long walk hack on monday eve providing I can find somewhere to go where we wont be attacked by the damn horseflies.........summer, don't you just love it!!!

Whatcha on about!!!!! too hot to ride? been 55°c here !!!

ETA- your welcome to the hot sunny weather byt the way

It's been far too hot and muggy today, my horse was sweating in his stable, and rushed over to come in from the field this morning, so I gave him a bath rather than ride.

Merlin is actually glad to be in

.... Usually he hates it and digs up his bed in a temper

But I havent ridden since Wed as I have been up and down to the New Forest with kids bikes

I haven't ridden for a couple of days, but went for it tonight as pony needs the exercise! Went about 7pm, and still seriously hot!
We WALKED out on a hack for about an hr, he was sweating like a pig and we were surrounded by a swarm of flies, poor little bugger.

I'd rather be washing sweat off a horse at the end of a ride than mud and all the nastiness that comes with winter. Lots of walking work is in order - by the time the hot period ends we'll all have super-fit neddies. According to MetCheck it's going to be hot AND wet next week - hence why I am determined not to complain about hot and dry!

!Would no way work my lad in that temp...hated it myself and i havnt got a fur coat, lol!!Thinking of bringing him in tomorrow dinner if it is as bad as today(he lives out at the mo),if he will settle!Had to tie up a hayledge net today under a tree to get him out of the sun, lol, silly bugger stood in middle of field snoozing and swatting horseflies(bloody things)

2 of us went out for a hack this morning at 11, we mostly walked and did a bit of trotting and had a lovely time and I don't really like the heat. The horses didn't seem overly bothered by the heat and they got a good wash down when we got back. Trying to make the most of the dry weather it will probably be chucking it down soon!

In the winter I long for summer, and then when it arrives I realise what I forgot about, when I am surrounded by 5000 files, my horse and I sweating like pigs on humid day.
I have sprayed Jungle formula on my face today in desperation, and on my horse, plus the barrier flyspray and he has a full fly mask for hacking, but they are still all over him.
Can't really do fast work because of the heat, but then darn't just walk as the flies and cleggs will eat you alive!
Roll on late September, early October when there may just be enough of a nip in the air to kill off the insect predators.

Well my horses had to manage to do some SJ classes in the heat of the day - Badger didn't break a sweat, tully only did when he was being an arse!

I was sweating my tits off!!!

I schooled this afternoon and she was a little bl**dy madam the whole time. Nothing says 'I'd rather be sunning myself in the field!' like running round with your nose stuck in the (non-existent) clouds and performing the entire dressage test rehearsal sideways, except for the bits where we should have been sideways... we carried those out backwards instead.

I rode today and lead my son out on his loan pony at midday, it was hot but we both wanted to ride. Neither of the horses got sweated up and they both enjoyed it. the only thing I was bothered about was everyone getting sun burnt (we all have fair skin and the ponies have pink noses) so I was running round madly with the factor 50.

I now avoid making these excuses. If it is very hot and I get the chance to ride, I ride. We don't do fast work, we just take it easy.
If it is raining and I get the chance to ride, I go out.

Having a little un means that if I used weather as an excuse as I used to I would never ever ride. LOL

It is a lovely cool 24C at the moment (7.17am)

I don't ride much during the day, bugs are too bad and neither the horse nor I enjoy it, so we don't bother.

Going canoeing down the Grand River today, MUCH better way to stay cool.

Pelly, 55C! Too much. Is it terribly cold in the winter too?

HOW hot??? Are you in the Sahara?
We get temps of upto 45C in summer here. I'll ride up to about 35C and then it just gets too much. Obviously, we ride as early as possible too, but if you've got more than one horse to ride sometimes you've just got to cook!
