Archie (29, retired, riddled with melanoma) has a graze and a swelling right between his front legs. I don't think it's a kick as it's right in between his legs so any blow would have had to come up from below. I think it may be sweat making him itchy and he's found a way to rub it. I forgot my phone when I went to the yard so no photo. I'm not massively worried about it - swelling is soft, a bit warm but not angry looking and he's fine with me poking and prodding it, he's a total drama queen so would make a huge fuss if it was sore - but I'm not sure what to do for the best. The field has a nice breeze running through it and loads of trees for shade so is a lot cooler than his stable but obviously flies are more of an issue there. I've washed him off, plastered the graze in Fllitabac to keep the flies off it and left him out but now I'm thinking maybe in is better? His stable is breezeblock and gets very hot so if it is a sweat thing he's likely to sweat more in there. If he's itchy he loves me to scratch him, otherwise I'm not allowed to touch anything below shoulder height and he was practically begging me to scratch him earlier so there's definitely itchiness going on but there are no obvious fly bites or anything on his tummy.

Got a photo of it tonight. The graze hasn’t broken the skin, it’s sort of half way between a patch of dry skin and a graze. The whiteness is the filtabac.

I had a mare that had multiple sarcoids lazered off during a hot summer, and our wooden stables were absolute ovens during the day so she had to go out as there was at least a breeze and shade. All 16 of the sarcoid holes were on her underside, so not covered by a rug. I slathered them all in Equi-salve twice a day as per vet instructions, nice thick coating, and didn't have any issues with the flies thankfully! Equi-Salve has citronella in so it did a fab job keeping the flies away and the wounds clean.

Thanks, I'll have a look at that. He's not got a wound as such, it's more raw skin so I'm hoping the flies are an inconvenience to him rather than a danger as I can't cover it with anything other than cream. He'll have another good cool bath tonight. Just hope this weather breaks soon - both the horses and I hate it!
