Too late to clip?!

I've always been told mid-Feb is the latest to clip, but if your horse is uncomfortable it may be the kindest thing. Is he/she moulting yet? If not I'd seriously think about doing it.

I clipped a horse for someone yesterday, legs and top of his back left on for warmth as he has some issues, he will be out competing in a few weeks so I hope he will look ok but it needed to be done for his comfort which is more important than appearance.

Not too late in my book, I clipped my cob last week and shall continue to do so through the summer if i feel it is necessary - he is a sweaty mess when exercised if not clipped and it makes after hack care a nightmare otherwise!

hmm well my welshie has just started shedding winter coat, as such if I wanted to show in the summer/didn't want lines I would only either leave it or clip it off completely (I normally do the latter pre-shed).

I did actually clip a week ago (pre-shed) but did a blanket clip, however I don't really care what he looks like and he doesn't get the best of summer coats anymore (now 19) and gets too hot so last year was kept full/part clipped all year.

I think it really does depend on what you intend on doing with yours in the summer/how vain you are! ;) :D as you might be risking keeping those clip lines for quite a long time.

depends on her conformation for type of clip - chaser or trace or blanket.
If she's not casting then you're in with a chance at not ruining the summer coat. My pony has just started casting - not that i'd clip him anyway... but if i was going to it would be too late.
The weather is really mild for this time of year, a horse i ride with a chaser was sweay in walk today just because its so mild - as soon as its chilly the clip does its job!

in which case do what is necessary to keep her comfy :). I was resisting clipping frank as he was only on walk/trot walk anyway due to a lameness issue/coming back into work. but it has been sooo warm he was getting silly hot just doing that so off it came! :D

I was tempted to do my boy, but he's been shedding now for around a month or so... absolutely falling out now so resorted to a shedding blade instead!
