How can I nicely stop a friend getting another pup? She has ten dogs already and is determined to get another she can afford them but is not fit enough to properly exercise them, due to have second knee replacement anytime, and they all live in house, and whilst fed not brain exercised, they are mainly collies now she wants a kelpie, god help it, she needs to wait till she looses a few in my opinion.

I thought this post was aimed at me:D:p (im not sure what the answer is) im actually reducing my numbers, no more in when I lose any sadly. I need a life!:(

Oh eck! It must be a big house?

I'd put it like this - does she really want the risk of a small pup after an operation like that? What if it gets under her feet? How will she scoop up pup and run out for impromptu loo spurts? Jump up and grab it when it chomps on a cable? What if she has even a mild complication after surgery?

Good luck, thank you for trying :)

Thanks for idea it is a 3 bed bungalow with large garden and five acre paddock attached, we have 9 dogs but on farm and they work sheep, terriers rat rabbit, just think she is obsessed with getting pup and can't see it isn't fair on it or her old dogs, as lovely as she is.

Unfortunately, while she thinks she loves dogs, she doesn't love them enough to put them first. If she did, she would make sure the ones she already had got what they needed. Having a paddock doesn't forgive not taking dogs for decent walks. It is just a glorified garden...they still need to get out and about and get the mental stimulation of travelling.

Maybe tough love is needed. I did it with a friend two years back...basically said if she got the third dog, she could forget calling on me 24/7 when things went wrong as she already had so many issues with the two she had. Long story, but she shouldn't have had any dogs. Purely a case of, "i want, i must have" when it really should be, "can i give another dog what it needs".

Good luck...it's a tricky one.

What will the RSPCA do as long as they are fed, watered and have shelter? I don't think the OP is saying her friend is a welfare case, just a bit of a tardy dog owner.

Kelpies can be incredibly destructive so I would just warn her it will wreck her house if it does not get enough exercise. They are a working breed.

Also ask her why she is going for high energy dogs at her time of life and what would happen to them all if something happened to her, God forbid, scare her and say they could all get taken off her.

Thanks not at all RSPCA but just keeps getting them, fine if a reason but she is OCD over them, will ask if she thinks fair on kelpie and what where would it go if worst happens.
