My boys are now out 247 so I make sure they come in for a couple of hours a day to eat a bit of hay and have a small feed of hifi and supps - read that this helps with gassiness?

Anyway, they're both having garlic, a dash of linseed oil (mainly for ty's back legs as it seems to really work for him but thought it can't harm oscar). They're both getting a bit gassy so was thinking of using Coligone but Oscar is also losing alot of salt so wondered if I should give him something to help with that - he spends most of his time in thestable attacking the salt lick! Can I use normal salt or elctrolytes?

just don't want to bog them down with supps but also don't want them to be gassy and missing nutrients.

Also, ocsar has got some big midgy bites on his tummy - would him sweating alot be encouraging them?

Thanks

Would recommend you get a paddock lick if your boys are out on their own, otherwise maybe a good GP supplement. Tummys will settle down once they adjust to the grass. Sweating might encourage midgies but more likely to be midgies biting for the sake of it!

Sorry should have said that they're in a mixed field or I would defo have put a field lick out.

Oscar definately needs some salt back in his diet - you can see it on his coat when he comes in so is definately lacking....just don't want to bog him down with supps.

I was thinking of a GP vit and min but they're otherwise ok?

Never though putting themon grass would be so complicated!

I think just an all purpose vit supp should do the trick,if you worried about salt intake try one of the himalayan salt licks in the field, they are great,he can have access to what he wants then!

can't put a lick in the field really as it's got quite a few horses in it so not really fair.....think I might just use eletrolytes (or whatever they're called) every now and again, coligone, garlic and linseed.....

thanks guys!

The salt licks are huge(take forever to get through, plus rain dosnt wash them away) and not all of them would use it,cheap to,could you not all put couple quid each in??

some normal table salt in the diet plus lo salt if you really want. recommended by our vet and easier than licks

I bought a NAF general purpose vitamin supplement today, its not a bad price either and at least he'll be getting everything he needs when he's out. If you think your boys will still keep getting bloated stomachs when they're used to the grass NAF's Pink Powder is the same but with a probiotic, so that should help. I know I sound like I'm advertising but I'm not! I'm worried about overdoing it with mine as well, he has a liquid joint supplement, garlic, soya oil and his vitamins now, at the moment he's put on weight so he just has that with a small amount of alfa-a and a bit of sugar beet to mix it all in, only fed once a day.
