Too much of an Ugly Duckling still to do anything inhand this summer?

OK lol be warned with piccies, he is my Youngster who will be two at the end of June. He is in full winter mode in these shots, and hasnt started to lose his coat yet. Can't wait to get him on some good grazing once the grass comes through, and so appreciate his weight isnt up to what I would like it to be for his age.

Bearing all the muddy/hairy/wintery factors in mind, would you suggest we do anything inhand this summer, or is he still too much of an ugly duckling? Or if you think he could, what class?

I would have ideally liked to have got him out to a couple of shows this summer, nothing huge, just to get him a little more worldly, and see what he makes of it all.

He is 14.1hh now, hoping he'll make at least 15.1hh. Mum Hanoverian Dad TBxShire. No breeding to write home about but he moves nice, and has a lovely attitude, with a big spoonful of cheekiness thrown in.

Great if you would let me know what if anything I should do at his stage/height etc taken into consideration.....

Thanx

Just go to local shows and do little in hand classes such as in-hand gelding, part-bred classes cover everything, 'native' condition in-hand classes are good if you don't feel like plaiting.
At 2 mine was a lump, all body and a big head which for a 7/8tb was quite alarming, at 18 months he was just a giant head, now he's a swan.

I think he's lovely, but I don't know anything about showing! You could always just take him for a look around a couple of local shows without entering a class if needs be, couldn't you?

I would definitely get him out and about. A lot of other 2y/o will be looking the same and a good deal of 3 y/o's too!

He will get and adult summer coat this year, I always find it's the second year before that foal fuzz goes.

I bet he'll look fab by June, when the shows start.

It will be really good experience for him and I honestly do think you'll be surprised at the difference you get in him this year :)

Echo the others but with that breeding he'll be slow to mature anyway so a couple of shows would be enough for him. I wouldn't want him much heavier either, he's just right as a gawky child; too much weight will be bad for his joints with that breeding I think and most judges should take that into consideration, especially at local shows. Good luck with him, he looks very kind.

Definitely not - he looks really sweet. In hand local shows will be fine diddly and the sooner he gets used to going to parties the better. A shiny summer coat and some trimming and pulling and he'll look smashing :D

Ah thank you everyone, I will do a couple, and see how we go. Keep you posted, and thanks again all. Its hard to see the light at the end of the tunnel sometimes (esp after this winter lol).

just go for the fun and the experience! I think you'll be amazed at how well he scrubs up once he's lost his winter woolies and he's trimed and plaited! He'll look propper handsome!
