If you saw a pony advertised

14.2 rising 4, welsh x

and it had been started off, and taken out and shown a bit of everything, xc schooled, local SJing days etc, would you be worried it had done too much too soon or would you think that was ok

when is it going to be 4?

would depend how long it had been under saddle and how many little outings it had done... is it jumping 1'6ft or 3'6ft etc

jumping 2'3 / 2'6 type of thing

and literally just for a potter out, just to take in the apmosphere,and have a taste of what its all about xx

Depends how big it has been jumping, but generally yes I do think that is too much too soon. There's plenty of time for xc outings and showjumping later on

No not really. When i rode ponies for a guy years ago we backed them over xmas ( as thats when there was plenty of help around). So legally they were 3 rising 4yrs. Most didnt have registered breeding so we didnt know the breeding dates so presumed April/My (but many were probably a bit later I guess). Ponies were then thrown out for a bit from about Feb to April. Then brought in for the summer and taken affiliated showjumping, cross country schooling - rarely more than one or two fences together (as the yard had its own x country course) and sometimes ponyclubbing - rallies and camp and sometimes robie bailey. Basically in that summer, many of the ponies would be rising 4yrs and jumping mostly 90cm classes but by the end of the summer upto 1m05 in affiliated showjumping ( but never against the clock). Is the way things are done over here.
So no, I wouldnt be put off if a pony had been carefully produced (and never overfaced) as you have stated above.
