I know this is very much a how long is a piece of string/ no-one knows my horse but looking for what others do as I’ve never been in the position where i have the transport and horse.

So, i have a 9 year old Arab (just turned 9) he is nice and fit and strong, i ride him about 6 days a week.

At the minute he is feeling VERY well 😂 full of spit and fire as I say and loving life! We go to clinics most weekends. I took him SJ-ing at the weekend, just small jumps working on control and turns, my boy was a little too speedy and would have benefited from more riding in but at clinics I don’t have that option. I recently did a flat work and SJ clinic and by the time we got jumping he jumped the best he’s ever jumped! Lovely rhythm and adjustability and over his back, rather than the hooligan with his head in the air let me at ‘em attitude!! In May I’m off work for a week and have an intense pole work clinic on the Saturday, would taking him SJ training (again small, work on rhythm etc) be too much? Both are only 30mins away so not loads of travelling

I would.

If you have the arena space at home, maybe do 20 mins flatwork there before tidying up and heading to an SJ clinic.

One of our local stressage venues has a very buzzy working in, so I work B quite hard at home, clean up and tootle off in the box. 10 mins walking in the car park - then we go into do a test. Worth a thought?

To add to the fitness thing, at RC camp we have a flatwork lesson the 1st afternoon, then poddle off for a hack around. 2 x lessons on the next day of an hour each and another on the final day. Mix of polework, SJ & XC. I ensure we are fit enough - usually we are fitter than most as I increase riding to twice a day at least 3 weeks prior and increase the work within that.

Staying with a friend, i box 2.5 hrs, and then go for a hack of a couple of hours, same again next day. 3rd day we all box up and travel an hour, do a 12 mile fun ride with plenty of hills and jumps and then I drive just under 3 hrs home.

Perfectly fine if the animal and rider are fit enough. Some do not get the fittening work in and its agony for horse/ rider or both!!
I occasionally advocate for mine when its v hot as it drains her, she lets me know when she is mentally tiring, tho her leggies will take her on for ever and a day.
