Hi all I am a new member, but have been following the forum for a while.
A month or so ago I put my two choccie labs onto a raw diet, which is going really well. This morning I came down to let them out of the kennel, and five minutes later the mum had caught a bird and was eating it! The son then joined in and they are still munching through the feathers now - Is this normal?
They have eaten whole rabbits before so i havent taken the bird off them. Any one esles dogs do this? Thanks

Yep! My lurcher caught a pigeon in the back garden one time - OH couldn't get near him to take it off him, he was growling viciously (quite unlike him!!) The lurcher ate the whole thing except for its feet

- no ill effects at all luckily

That's really good all that feather roughage!

Mine are on raw and I got a couple of pheasants for them but the lazy little g*ts won't touch them until they are plucked or being lazy I skin them!

But have known a friends Sibe catch a bird out of the air! They also are partial to hedgehog and have worked out a strategy for "opening" them, you roll them onto the dirt so their spines stick in then you give them both front feed in the stomach, works every time.

The only problem I can see with that is if you want to work the labs, could be a bit of a no no eating the birdies!!!

Well re working them....... the mother is already too hard mouthed as the people who has her before us threw sticks for her,......... and the pup was the fattest laziest one of the litter and not showing much promise so far!
Acoytle ==the rottie caught a pigeon once out of the air but i think he shocked himself and didnt know what to do with it.....hes 8 yrs old and wont eat the raw stuff so he is on biscuit still with veg oil else he wont touch it ,,, strange boy!
