Too soon to buy first pony?

Try to find a share and give that a go for a bit longer first I'd say, kid's had like 5-10 hours in the saddle, and there's a lot more to ponies than just riding. At least then, if they go off it a couple months down the line, no issues, just end the share.

Unless this is a thinly veiled attempt to get yourself a little 4 hooved something something, in which case, go for it ;)

Make contact with your local pony club and also riding club. Ask the people who run it for ideas - they should know all the best local places and yards etc.

It might be just that 😅 we’ve got the space to keep the pony at home, but obviously to do that I’d need to get at least one more for company 🫣

I agree a share would be ideal to begin with. I’m just a little sceptical we’ll manage to find one within a reasonable distance of our house given how remote we are. Will definitely keep looking though.

She’s currently enthusiastic about riding, I’m keen to try and harness/encourage this. I worry that stagnating at this riding school for too long might have the opposite effect. There’s no fun or joy about it. That’s why I want to get her into pony club asap. I have such happy memories of my own PC days.

Depending on the PC these days many have active young riders groups / lead rein children. Our does a little ridden rally and also lots of dismounted fun stable management type things.

Yes our local pony club appears to be fairly well subscribed and active and seem to have regular rallies and shows for the lead reiners. A few of her close friends from school attend this pony club and I’m sure she’d have loads of fun.
