We got back to yard today after riding. There is a house in yard with a 3yo wee girl. She had a couple of friends, one spotted the horse and came running out followed by the wee girl and a grown up. I asked if they wanted to pat the horse. Of course they did so I got off and 2 little people enveloped robins nose stroking it. He loves this and carefully lowers his head so they can reach. They then move on to his shoulder. Wee girl asks if she can ride the horse. I explained that he was a bit big so she asked if she could feed him. Wee boy thought this a great idea too. Then another wee girl arrived. So robin very gently took a polo from each of them. I then realised the wee girl was hitting his stirrup with some sort of toy tool. Normally this would worry him but of course because it was a small person he didn’t move. He had his polos and kept his head down for more nose strokes. Not until they had finished did he lift his head again!

There used to be a livery with a 3yo daughter. He would hear her coming in the yard and look past everyone else. She would come running to him. Again he would carefully put his head down and stand there letting her stroke his nose until she was finished.

What a lovely horse. My sister's old welsh would have had the kids for breakfast, he hated children.

Mine isn't a fan, though years ago we met a whole hoard of them (must have been a class outing) on a nature trail. There were cries of "HORSEY" and they asked if they could stroke her. Trying to not be a wicked witch, I agreed but hadn't thought through the logistics. I'd naively thought they would form an orderly queue and stroke her one by one. Noooo, they swarmed her! They were everywhere, one even walked under her and others were hugging all four legs. She stood like a statue, but it could have been a disaster. I don't allow stroking now unless it's one child with a responsible adult.

What a lovely story! Mine is the same, she's very cuddly with adults but on her terms whereas she can be mid breakfast/hay net and she will gently lower her head for small people cuddles. Also with me she will try it on and walk towards a spot of grass whilst walking to and from the field whereas with another livery's 6 year old girl she walks like a dope on a rope.
