... and fractured my pelvis. Just a chip fx mind, but lots of muscle damage.

Was just getting a leg up on a 3yo filly in the 2nd lot and before I was even astride she took off bucking up the yard. As she was heading for the driveway I turned her (was pretty much on her neck at this stage having never touched the saddle). Went straight out the side door and landed on my hip on the concrete. Actually broke my body protectet!!

First time in my life that I couldnt physically get up after a fall, eventually (well about 10mins later), remounted but couldnt put any weight on my leg when in jockey position (at walk) so no way could I manage 30mins of flatwork and 2 miles on the gallops.
Very disappointed actually, as missed out on 3 lots including a really nice 4yo filly who has jut been broken. And we were to take the youngsters out cross country last lot.

So a few days bed rest and lots of tablets. Hoping Il be back on my feet by Monday (being very optimitstic here). Doc said 5 days bed rest and 2 weeks before I can do much moving about. Its the pain apparently as there isnt that much chance of doing further damage. Thankfully I have a very high pain threshold!

I am really sorry to hear that, it must have been scary . Do what the doctor says and don't be a hero! Have lots of rest and come back fighting fit. I would also use it as an excuse to do naff all in general

Lots of books and DVDs by the bed and a dying swan in it!

Im sure Il bounce back.

I never have a fear of falling off or of any horse - just the fear of looikng/doing something stupid!
Havent told my parents about the fall, they dont like me riding out regardless, this would only give them a good excse. They worry too much (and its not like Im a kid, I finished college this year!) just told them I strained a few miscles related to an old injury, which thankfully they accepted. both were away today so worked out well. I am however enjoying being waited on hand and foot.

ouch! huge vibes for quick recovery

glad to see im not the only one who lies about their injuries - horse stood on arm "oh, i wacked it on a door"
Got kicked in knee "oh, was carrying saddle and didnt see the rock so fell over"

Ah glenruby I presume this is at the new job? Thats awful. Please take it easy. A couple of weeks rest now could mean a lot fewer problems in the future. Give yurself and chance to heal properly. You will be back riding soon enough....

Yeah it is moocow- ironically it was the quietest horse I ride - I guess shes getting fit!

Its all quite superficial really, am very surprised by how much better I am this evening as was in a lot of pain this morning. Ive broken ribs, dislocated my shoulder and broken countless fingers and toes before, but never felt anything like this.

Only_me - if i told my parents the half of it theyd make sure I never rode again. Its always been like that even when I worked with foals and yearlings on the ground - they really think horses are too dangerous. That wont change, so I have to be a little "careful" with the truth. Not sure how easy it will be to hide the rather extensive grazes on my shoulder, elbow (no t shirts will hide those) and side though.

Thanks for the concern guys!

I hope you went to casualty and had an "X" ray?

My fractured pelvis took two weeks before the hospital managed to diagnose an acetabular fracture, which was hard to see without an ultrasound scan.
- I ended up with two plates, 9 titanium pins and 3 months in a wheelchair then 2 further months on crutches.
I hope its all pretty minor,
Best wishes for a quick recovery,

As a mother I shouldn't be saying things like that, but as someone who remembers her own reckless economy with the truth....

Oh poor you!! Sounds incredibly painful!!
I had to laugh when you mentioned your parents. My dad, on hearing I'd done my collarbone said "You'll be giving up riding then?" and my mum rang me up when I was being taken to hospital in the ambulance and gave me the biggest b*ll*cking EVER!!

Ouch poor you please dont overdo things and start to ride etc before the docs have given you the go ahead, broken/fractured pelvis injuries are common horse riding injuries and if this one gets injured again you could end up off your feet for a lot longer, it took me a year to ride again after I broke my pelvis and that was after the docs told me I wouldnt ride again. I am afraid you will have to bite the bullet and keep your feet up and rest and chill out maybe coming on here to keep you occupied...? healing vibes
