I had a jump lesson tonight and took a tumble, my head did not hit the ground. I believe my hat needs replacing still as its a couple of years old. I had my bp on.

We got the first part of a 3ft double wrong and he ducked out of the second element. I am trying to get him to canter into fences now instead of trotting and we were a bit long. Bit sore but ok. Hubby bought me an archers and lemonade and ran me ahot bath so now being spoilt.

I would only consider a crash hat (non fixed peak) I do not want one that looks like a cycle helmet either.

Thanks in advance

Depends how much you want to spend. I have the Charles Owen Pro II and love it- it's so comfortable I sometimes forget to take it off after a ride.

Just ride without a hat and therefore save yourself a hundred quid

(joking, joking..)

Not too woried about price as I am now jumping so would like it to be as high as possible on the safley rating. Thanks I have a Charles Owen so will take a look.

I haven't seen it discussed much here so maybe it's less of an issue, but in North America the various makes often fit quite differently and even within makes they often offer both an "oval" and a "long oval" style. Since fit is such a huge part of the actual purpose of a helmet, it makes sense to get the one that fits you best. Luckily most manufacturers offer a range of styles so if you find a make that suits you, you should be able to get your preferred style.

I love the champion SJ one. In fact I am on my 2nd one now. Think you have to find what shape suits you to be sure of a nice comfy fit

different makes fit different heads better.

i have tried the Charles Owen skull caps and they didn't suit my head at all.

my Champion ventair fits like a glove though.

I really like the charles owen ventilated one, I'm on my second one now..... I think it's the adventura?

It's great if you are riding alot of horses as it does keep your head cooler, and you can wash the interior padding

i love my CO J3. my friend has the adventura, which is really good if you get sticky smelly hat head.

I tried on the HS1, but it just wasn't the right shape for me. You'll need to try some on.

If you want safety first then there is no better hat on the market than the pro tector, my daughter recently had a huge fall onto her head, severely concussed,we had her hat looked at as there was a crease in the foam and we were advised that a "lesser" hat would probably have cracked open, not only SNELL standard but latest technology, carbon shell etc, I am very safety conscious and did much research before buying, so we are on our second pro tector and previously had HS1!!
