After decades of having old 7.5 tonners decedided would rather forego the living for modern reliability so now have a 3.5 ton Sonic. Been feeling guility telling potential sharers that I can only take one horse to be told x, y & z don't have any problems taking 2 etc etc. Also Horse & Country tv have shown Carl Hester load 2 huge warmbloods into a Sonic and Kelly Marks put that huge Harry and her friends cob into one. Obviously have no idea if these are 3.5 or 4.5 tonners. So decedided a trip to the weigh bridge was in order.
Normal Equi-trek Sonic. No floor to ceiling partitions or outside lockers adding weight. I have however added a kitchen unit and a couple of shelves to the changing area. Water for horses and smaller container under sink full. Only a quarter of a tank full of fuel - don't know size of tank but later put £40 in which moved gauge to just below half. No people as I stood in weigh bridge hut checking weight.
Horses x1 16.2hh lw tb type - weigh tape 520 kg
X1 15.2hh heavier type - weigh tape 460 kg
Total weight 3,860
With 2 adults would have been 4 ton easily with only a quarter of a tank of diesel!
Result will carry on taking only one horse
Hope this is of some help to others
