So continuing from my previous post, I took my new pony out in hand today for a walk. She was very well behaved, did not spook, and was good with traffic and tractors. So I am now looking forward to taking her out on a hack this week.

However, she is still being a pain when brushed. Trying to pull herself free and pushing me out of the way. I was very persistent and firm, and by the end she stood still while I brushed her. But when the other horse, who was also in the yard also being groomed, was taken back to her paddock it sent her off again trying to pull free to get away. I had actually finished but did not want her to think we were going back to the field becasue of her behaviour so I had her stay there for another 5 mins, correcting her when she tried to pull or push me. I also made a load clapping noise everytime she tried to push me with her head, she did look at me as if I was nuts but I think its working. Also the one time she pawed the floor I did it to, and she didn't do it again.

Here are some photos from the walk.

Mine is taking time to be happy tied up...improving all the time, found mine felt safer at the bottom of the yard for some reason!

(you might need to doublecheck about using a bridle on public roads if that is one)

What a sweetie! :)
What's her name?

Her name is Fjord, its a bit boring and I would quite like to change it. But feel it may be slightly unfair to change her name as well as her environment as she is already 15! Do other people change their horses names??

Thanks for the tip about photos. And didn't know that about a headcoller on public roads... will find out about that, thanks.

Will also try tying her up in another part of the yard and see if that helps.

I really think she is stunning...good luck on your first hack out...let us know how you get on?

I didn't see your first thread...how old is she? where did you get her :)

She is lovely, congratulations, She is very similar to my mare, Highlands and their crosses have fab personalities, good luck with her!

She is 15. I bought her for me and my children to share as a been there done that calm pony. She is very sweet and although she only arrived Friday morning I have already ridden her in a jumping lesson, and had my kids up on her in the arena on Sunday playing slalems and stopping to put pretend petrol in her etc. Her only vice is the brushing, but I am sure I can overcome this with a bit of ground work.
