and that intro fence was not only bigger than the novice fence, but narrower too!!

anyway, we had a play around over the other fences including the novice fence at the same place, and then had a go at that intro fence again, he ran out first time, then mum found a big branch in the hedge and proped it up beside the fence, he then jumped it great, and again and again and again, and then again with nothing there!!
Still makes me mad that it was included in the course.. the novice fence was an a) and b) on an angle, they should have let the intro just jump part b) or something like that..

i dont have much knowledge about eventing - but it sounds completly ridiculous that they had a fence in the intro that was narrower and bigger than the novice fences

ridiculous is about the word to sum it up.. when i rang up to ask if i could come back to school, the woman said "was it the tyres" is said yes, and she said sorry. hmmm bit late now.

There was a fence in the intro at Beckwithshaw today that was a bit odd, was bigger and less inviting than the PN fence and the PN got an alternative too!

That novice fence was tiny, thats true. Shame it didnt have any firs at the side as, like you say, that would have made it jumpable!
The PN corner there caused a fair few glance offs too

It is an interesting lesson learnt though isn't. Riders reps (or the organiser) are there to raise concerns and surely they would have to acted if it brought to the organisers attention before the class started. We are all too easy to let things just happen when a word in the right direction could benefit all.

I didn't walk the course but C agreed that jump was far more difficult than the Novice and PN fences..
The only thing she said she would have worried her was the bank/bounce roll top in Novice, but I do agree the Intro should have inviting fences not something as difficult as the skinny was.
I would write a nice email to Southcott, they are very receptive to any critiscism, and do their utmost to get things right, with any luck next time there will be plenty of bushes round anything as hard as that..
We may ask if we can go back to showjump, that was quite a difficult course I felt with a big spread then downhill to the planks.. It would be nice to be able to play over it again!

I talked to Sophie H about it after (although too late by then) and just asked her if anyone had come to see her about it (she was one of the rider reps) and yes, but she hadn't walked that part of the course till after the XC had started, so too late for her to say anything..

As said, it's a lesson learnt, and next time i see something like that, i will most certainly say something to someone.. intros are to be encouraged not sorted out.

i was there and i looked at that and i think the PN got an alternative because it was nearer the water and some horses will have thought they were jumping into water. so they had an alternative for horses that were nervous of water.but hey i dont know really! that is just what i think.
