Tooth extraction cost

Just been to the vets for my dogs annual check up and booster jab, the vet noticed one of my dogs teeth are loose and advised me to book her in for a tooth extraction and teeth cleaning. They have quoted me at least £700 for this doing with a possibility of it been up to £1000 if more teeth need extracting. Is this normal pricing of a bit expensive has I've never had to have this procedure done before.
 
I paid £500 for cleaning last year which resulted in two extractions, the two removed were small bottom front teeth and the dog is a 10kg dog.
 
Depends on the weight of your dog, mine is just under 10kg and falls in a lower bracket for anaesthesia. I've just paid £632 for a dental that involved 2 teeth out, a clean and extraction of a grass seed from her tonsil (which was why she was actually in pain in fact)
 
Do shop around a little. My friend was quoted £850 i think for dental work but ended up travelling further afield and paying less than half that amount.
 
It really does depend on the size of the dog, I guess.

Daisy (7.5kg) had some teeth out about three years ago and it was around £200. I wouldn’t expect to pay much more than that now tbh. However my vet’s charges are very, very reasonable.

Wow. I'd say that's really reasonable. I may sneak my cat who needs a dental into my case when we head your way next!
 
My dog is 27kg my bill earlier this year was £853 for a dental clean and 3 teeth removed but that also included an X-ray of a hind leg
 
Ouch! I’m in a cheap area of the country but just paid £400 for GA, dental and 2 small teeth out, 30 kg dog.
 
My dog weighs about 7kg, she's a Jack Russell terrier. The vets I use is vets4pets in West Yorkshire which I have found to be a little expensive. I only go there because I took out the vacs for life promotion. I am definitely going to shop around.
 
It depends on a lot of things, not just the size of the dog.

For example a 30kg dog that has a couple of rotten incisors removed, may take about 20 minutes and cost less than a 10kg dog that has a large molar removed. That is because that large molar may require drilling, a gum flap and stitching. Removing difficult teeth could take anywhere between 30 minutes to a couple of hours. Incisors have shallow roots and are usually quicker to remove than canines and molars. The molars have 2-3 roots and usually require drilling. If the tooth isn't rotten/loose then it can be really hard to be removed (in the case of a fractured tooth for example). Some teeth can snap or crumble during extraction and then more time is required to ensure that all the fragments have been removed.

Some practices may take dental x-rays (recommended...especially in cats). Does that estimate include pre-op blood tests, fluids, nerve blocks, post-op medications etc? You can obviously shop around, but go with a vets that you trust. Other vets may only be able to give you a vague ball park figure without having seen the dog. Vets may not know exactly what work needs doing until the patient is under anaesthetic and can be properly examined. Dentals can unfortunately cost quite a bit of money, which is difficult because so many animals are left in pain but will continue to try to eat to survive. Dental disease can also lead to heart problems.

I am a bit out of touch now with pricing as I work in charity, but I someone I know had a small dog go to their PV for a scale and polish with X-rays (no teeth removed) and that cost 400.
I have heard of dental costs being anywhere between 500-1500. Sometimes more if complex and with a dental specialist.
