After literally 10 years ot terrible luck, some admittedly my own fault, eg- buying with known issues but thinking I could fix, some really not- a random broken leg and all that lies in between. I'm on horse number 9 (since living here and this sh*te run starting) I still have 4 but two its looking likely are doing a last summer.
latest one, I've had a month, on loan. He was very unexpectedly offered to me on loan as finally something sound and healthy i could just enjoy. Its been lovely, an actual horse with nothing wroing, sound, no special needs or requirements. Such a relief having one I'm not constantly worried about.
Until last week. He got what appeared to be a scab on his jaw, he also started trying to rub his leg ridden- which is what made me investigate further. Its swollen but not huge, then started "leaking" I say leaking rather than oozing or something because it wasn't pussy or gunky- Its watery.
Vet came out after a few days of bathing and hot clothing but not reallt gettung anywhere and commented that one side (that side) of the actual jaw is thickened. She thinks the scab is a drain hole from his jaw. She also commented on entering his stable first about his slightly dirty nose. I hadn't noticed that when I'd got him in a few hours previously but may have missed it. Later in the day (last Friday) it was really snotty and was for a few days, now just back to how it looked when she pointed it out- A bit crusty at worst. (Only ever that one nostril)
He has a weeks worth of Trim to see how that pans out. If its still discharging we will need to x-ray his jaw and the vet thinks poitentially its a root canal infection which as per other threads on here can be quite big money
I'm pretty gutted, Its been 4 weeks and this has happened. I admit I have also now lost any enthusiasm and just got myself in a bit of a hole as actually there is something wrong. He's had the weekend off, Vet said he should be ok to ride but I'm back to "is the hurting him" Vet advised i speak to the owners after x-rays if it comes to that and see if they are willing to cover the costs otherwise I'm really not sure. So Depressing.
